Last weekend I was at a party in South Hampton, Long Island NY. It is a very affluent area and a magnet for drawing a lot of young rich people from the NYC area. At the party there was this guy who owned a 2006 Porsche Carrera GT. He was bragging about it to his friends. One of my girlfriends told him that my GT would smoke him. He just looked at her with laughter in his eyes. Then he and his friends bursted out laughing. When they saw my Mustang Parked on the grass, one blared out it's just a freakin Mustang GT. "Who is the owner?" My friend, karen, pointed me out. Now they were really laughing, some falling on the grass rolling hysterically. This got me mad. Real mad. I wanted to show them that I was no joke.
T-bone, the owner of the Porsche said my Mustang is nothing but a "toy car, a wanna-a-be racer." "Looks good, big, heavy and underpowered" he said "good enough for my little brother's first car, that is about it." They all cracked up again, grabbing their crotch.
I said, "Lets run um! Lets go!" T-Bone laughed some more and said "Get the fu.. out of here!" I said, yeah that is what I thought, a big mouth, chicken and walked away. This upset T-Bone and he yelled "Yo, yo! Who are you talking to" I turned around "T-bone's face turned a vivid shade of back/Red and said out loud "Okay! REC TIME, this is gonna be good! Lets run from 0 to red line. I'm gonna shut up this hot bit.. up for good! She'll blow that engine sky high!"
But I was ready. I know my Stang well. I know she can burry the speedo with 900 RPM to spare and I know she can run 0-60 in 4:20's all day long. Enough to beat out this overrated pritty car to death.
T-bone started his engine and reved it. It caught me by suprise. It's tone was something I never heard before. Robust, hardy, and full of muscle. It gave me goose bumps. I told myself "I want that exhaust set up on my Stang." Then I started up my Mustang. When they all heard my engine wine, they shouted out "Owwwwwww!" shaking their hands like they were scared and laughed uncontrolably. Another yelled "Hey, T, the bit.. has a blower on it" T-Bone said "Word!" shrugged his shoulders and said "Its all good!, lets go!"
We set stage at the very end of the highway. Behind us was the Atlantic ocean. Nothing in front of us for at least 4 miles. Several people got in their cars and drove down the highway a mile ahead to get a better vantage point.
I did my burn out. Got my Mickey Thompsons nice and hot. One of the guys would honk the horn 3 times. The 3 honk would start the race. T-Bone didn't do a burn out. Didn't rev the engine. On the 3 honk, I got off the line first. Out by a foot. This lasted for the first 10 feet. The Porsche got out like a sling shot. He kept pulling away. I looked at the speedmeter, I was at 75 mph and he was up about 5 cars. I thought I'd get him on up top, but was wrong. At 105mph he was up about 8 cars. I was approching 150 mph and 5600 rpm and he was up 15 or so cars -- couldn't tell any more. But I kept on going until my shift light hit 6500 rpm. Things were moving by so fast it. My engine was at her limits. It could go no more. The Porsche was easily 20 cars ahead and now rapidly opening up more and more of a lead. My, Gosh, I thought, he was probably pushing 185 mph, maybe more. When I saw his brake lights I slowed down. I was glad it was over. It was too fast for confort.
My D-Pic read 0-60 4.18, 1/4 mile 11.37. The Porsche must have done 0-60 in 3.7 and 1/4 in 10 flat.
I was so embarrassed, I kept on going down the highway and never returned to face the laughter.
When I returned home, I looked up my top speed on computer. I have a real time GPS in my Stang. It is my last resort toward recovering my car in the event of thieft or car jacking. It said 156 mph.
I don't get it, I am running close to 460 rwhp, how could I lose so badly to a stock car fresh off the show room floor! I put over $21,000 in engine, suspension, tranny, drivetrain, and brake parts into my Stang. Yet I get trounced so badly.
I think I will put on a 100 shot for races as these. What do you guys think? I have a built long block.

There isn't anything wrong with losing to that car. You should've done your research on this one though...
A new Carrera GT comes in at a little over 3000 lbs with a 600 hp V10. Who gives a sh*t if its stock. Retail price is something like $440,000. Thats a respectable death. Probly should have seen it coming though.
Get some juice, lose some weight, it might be closer.
Either way, just remember, a new set of wheels for that car probably costs as much as your whole car does.

Hmm.... nice at any rate. I think you need to do some more things for aerodynamics. Thatll improve your car a lot more than just adding more power. Also, lowering it quite a bit will help, the less air you move under your car the better. The Carrera GT is a fast car, bone stock. Not to mention its very slippery sheetmetal design, the faster you went the worse it got for you and the better it got for him. Now some people will get on here and tell you that it doesnt mean didly, well all I gotta say to them is -You probably dont drive fast enough for aerodynamics to matter. What year is your car?? Im going to assume its '96 or newer. Like I said before make your car more slippery, lighten it up some and she'll be all set to smoke the euro rockets. -P.

I is an 02 GT. I have a lowered coilover suspension front and back, front Blue Steeda Sway bar, Full length subframe connectors and Ford Racing Aluminum Driveshaft -- weld on. No body kit.

I just always find most things that Janine posts for race stories hard to believe... like the 10 second Hemi Cuda she ran into, this car which obviously is a rare car, and the one where she gets hit on by the guys girlfriend... forgot the car in that one though - and it's always a big production story.. just somethings that are so hard to believe.

Look, I seen Porsches before and beat them out. But I never seen a Carrera GT nor read about them. I have not interest in them. I thought is was a 350 hp car and could beat it. I had no notion whatsoever that it packed over 600 hp and weighted 600 lbs less than my Mustang.
Hmm...... Id have to look into body stuff for 99-04's to give a recommendation. But the general idea is this, dont worry about a spoiler too much because thats not where the problem lies. Its with the nose of the car. Basically if you can remove any air pockets that are created when driving the better. Like one of the largest ones is smack dab in the center - the grille, if youve ever read about the FR500 car or seen it the first thing youll notice is that the grille area has been smoothed over to match the rest of the front fascia. On my '85 (4eye) the headlights are recessed in these sort of pockets, mine was an easy "mod" (if you can call it that), I just slapped some headlight covers on and that smoothed the front end right out. I immediatly noticed a difference at speeds above 100, I would accelerate faster. Ill look into aero mods and see what I can dig up. -P.

That's right... It was when the z06 was just coming out and nobody had em yet... im not saying this never happened - its just always amazing how you run into these awesome cars...

Please consider where I live: Queens NY. 10 miles out from NYC. Big population here. It is not like I write about a race a week. This is the 6th race I wrote about in almost 2 years.

Dude, Ive already looked under the hood and poked and proded at a Z06. Theyre a really nice piece of work thats for sure, all I can say is 2" primaries on their headers. -P.

If you really ran 11.37 or somewhere around there then you should have at least given him a good run.
I tried my best. Honest. This Carrera GT was out of this world. Amazing performance in this car. I am telling you that car was for real. The only car I ever seen on the street that would have beaten it or given it a good show is a 1971 426 Hemi Cuda. The Cuda did a wheel stand on the Blvd and the guy wore a helmet.
Yea, if she's runnin 11's in the quarter, there is no way that (stock) it should have destroyed you like you said...
i mean, some of those exotics are amazingly stupid creepy fast, but still, how many stock street legal cars run 10's?? I'll bet we could count them on 2 hands no problem. ( i could be wrong though )
just seems like if it happened, youre exaggerating ....perhaps?? i dont know,,,,

Or lieng perhaps? Since when could people in Queens, NY afford a new Carrera GT or a 10 second Cuda? 500,000 for a car? In Queens? Highly unlikely, I am sorry but I am going to have to raise the BS flag.
