How about doing the speed limit, then you wouldn't have to buy a fancy radar detector........nah, what fun would that be.

lets put it this way i have an escort 8500 (retails at $300(($180 with best buy discount)) and i have 4 speeding tickets..... its saved me from numerous others, but dont rely on it. cops can pop shoot you, meaning keeping their radar off, then popping it on and getting you. thats illegal but they do it ALL THE TME. i know a cop who tells me all the time......
also, make sure you get on with lazer detection. its scares the **** outa you.... those are so exact.... in summary, they're helpful but dont rely on them... if you get one get a radar/laser jammer too (its legal in illinois i dunno abouy ny)

this is what i have http://www.jammersstore.com/p_escort_8500.htm
check these they have combos http://www.jammersstore.com/jammers.htm

also they have license plate covers for photo tickets

*quick note* i go to chicago all the time.... it either go4es crazy the whole time beeping and i unplug it, or doesnt go off once.... but they dont give speeding tickets in chicago

I know for a fact the K-40's laser diffuser works and scrambles the cops gun, and if you get ANY ticket they will pay it. At $1500 a pop they better.

I found a nice whistler rmote radar for $100(GREAT DEAL!) that I installed in my 94. Check out page 3 of my signature.
