Tonight it was rainy and wet and I had to move my car so my mom could get hers in the drive way. When I put the car into R I hear a clunk as the car shifts, then again when I put it in P. Is this regular noise or should I have the tranny looked at? I know it does this time to time when the car has been sitting a while. Once its driven a bit it won't do it anymore. I think I remember someone askign about this a whiela go on another forum, but I just want to be safe. The car drives and shifts fine otherwise.

Yes i also have that problem, also had it on my 2000 mustang so it seems normal to me. Took it to the dealership said there was nothing wrong with it.

My '06 V6 Auto rarely, if ever "clunks" when shifting from Park to Reverse or Reverse to Drive, etc. The only times I recall it clunking are if I shift while there is still the slightest bit of motion in the car (having just backed out of drive, but not to full stop, etc.) or perhaps when I didn't have the brake pedal firmly depressed enough or released the brake slightly before the shift had set?

I don't think the clunking is a problem requiring service (IMHO), but perhaps it is related to how firmly the brake pedal is depressed and/or when it is released or how completely motionless the vehicle is when shifting.

I've read a couple of other mentions in here that this clunking happens to them and some seem to think it is just the way the automatics are made. I for one, do not have the clunking at least 99% of the time. My car was built in December '05 so maybe if this was an "issue" it got worked out?

If I back out of the driveway and shift to 3rd, It will do sort of a clunk after I roll forward about 5 feet.
I've never noticed this if I shift from Reverse to Drive.
