I am finally getting GT sways for my '05 vert.

1. For the front Sway, do I have all the nuts and bolts I need by reusing what's there for the existing front?
2. For the rear, what is the Ford part numbers for the nuts, bolts and washer to install the rear sway
3. What are the sizes of the nuts bolts and washers for the rears if I have to get them at Home Depot

Anybody with good picture of the REAR swaybar installed on a VERT.... I want to understand how it goes on relative to the X brace on the bottom. I see some other people might have installed their bars backwards or upside down? Somebody installed it wront (maybe) as they has the sway BELOW the X braces, somebody else chimed in that the sway is supposed to go OVER top of the X brace.

Pics would be swell.

As for bolts: Front - re-use the bolts that are on the front sway bars now. Rear - four (4) 8 x 16 bolts, nuts and washers for the ends connecting to the lower shock mounts. Two (2) 12 x 65 threaded end bolts, nuts and washers for the body mounts. Get stainless steel only (they need to be rust resistant so don't go cheap) and don't buy them from a dealer because they'll cost you over $25 (I read a thread where somebody said it cost just under $50 - Jesus these dealers rip you off for simple nuts and bolts). Go to a good hardware store and it should cost about $10.

And by the way the price is about normal for GT take-offs and its worth the investment. Also get some non-permanent thread lock which you should put on, at least, the front bolts because they are re-used.

I got mine at Hope Depot

The 4 bolts for the bushing I bought were 8 x 1 0 (20mm long)
I should have bought 25mm or even 30 mm long ones, it would have been easier to get the nuts on with the large washers and lock washers I used. I used oversized washers on these which will become obvious why when you see where the nuts go.

the 2 support bar bolts were 12 x 1 75 (70mm long) with washers, lockwashers and nuts, I also added an extra washer inside the bracket next to the support bar because there was a little slop when the bar was in the bracket.

The hardware I bought was zinc plated steel, probably not automotive grade, but this is not my daily driver so they should hold up for me. Now that I know what I am looking for I may pick up stainless, but not in any hurry.

If Ford still had ALL of the parts available I would have spent the $40 and got them from Fordparts.com. As it stands now I have spent 3 trips and $13 in hardware and have a few leftover washers / lockwashers.


The bar definitely goes over the frame support rails. Do yourself a favor and pull off the wheels, it will be far easier to install the top bolt on the end bushings. There will be a little tag on the bar that says "left" on along with the part number that ends with an "A", this goes on the drivers side.

Supposedly there is a convertible specific sway that has a part number that ends with a "B", and the difference is that it has more of a bend to it to give additional clearance for the frame support rails. Then I have also heard that they are now using a universal bar for both the coupe and 'vert ???? No matter I have my bar installed and I have close to 2" clearance between the support rails and the sway bar . I will take her out for a good test this weekend and see if I can get them to make contact, but I don't see any way that they could hit each other. So far so good though!

Hate to rain on the parade, but I don't think I would ever use stainless fasteners on any suspension components - stainless fasteners are generally a little on the soft side and dont have the shear strength of carbon steel

SInce Ford has discontinued one of the nuts you need to install the take off rear sway, I figured I would get all the parts in one place locally.

That turned out to be more work than installing the sway bar. Now that I know just what I need I will try looking online for a good source of quality hardware, unless someone else has aready done it and I have somehow overlooked it.

Does somebody have the Ford part numbers... I can check dealers in my area.... how could they have deleted these parts? They still have to attach current sways to new cars, and in the case of an accident, they may have to repair the front or rear and would need sways harware? It makes no sense that it hasn't been replaced with SOMETHING.

Received my rear sway bar from Diversified. I only ordered the rear but in the box there's 2 bars . i think they gave me extra front. i only pay $80 plus 7 for shipping. Good deal and I will install it this weekend. First got to Home Depot to buy the nuts and bolts.

Do you have the picture of your rear sway bar? How it look like ?

My rear sway had white arms on it.... which I thought was weird. Also, they forgot to put the brackets for the rear sway in the box... nice... I have the nuts and bolts on order from Ford....

I bought the nuts and bolt in Home Depot. Will this hold or I need to buy it somewhere else. I have to return the 8 X 16 and bought the 8 X 25 coz it too short especially on the back.

My GT sway bars from Diversified came yesterday.

I ordered the nuts and bolts from Ford; they should be here soon. There were no washers in the "parts picture" of the book the guy was using (he showed me and, indeed, there were no washers). What washers, lock or otherwise, should I get?

the advantage of the ford parts is they snap in to the mounts on the car so you only need one wrench. thats what those key hole looking areas are on the shock mounts. thats what i used and it was a snap. took less the 10 min to install.

hope this helps and yes hd bolts are cheaper but thees just snap in the holes. when i helped beaustang install his helwig s bar they just used bolts with large washers it was ok but this does look cleaner IMO

I understand that, yes... but what about the washers? I have read in more than one post a reference to using washers. That's what I'm asking about. What washers??? There weren't any washers in the parts schematic.

the washers are if you don't use the ford bolts because the keyhole is so large the bolts would pull threw. if you use the ford bolts they snap right in to the keyhole real nice. so you dont need washers
