I got what I hope to be a good deal on a '96 Saleen 281 with a supercharger.  My question is, did these come with a supercharger stock back then, or was this an owner bolt on???

Also, what upkeep am I looking at with this supercharger, and what do I listen/look for when test driving this car??  It is a little on the high miles side (100K), but the car is in excellent shape otherwise.

I know turbo's pretty well, but not s/c's.  Thanks.

Actually, I just looked at some pics, and it does say supercharged, so it was factory installed.  Now, what do I need to look for, or listen to, during the test drive???

And is the higher miles a cause for concern???

Take it to the strip and abuse the s**t out of it.

Then drive it normally (what's that?), see if anything concerns you

AND TAKE IT TO AN INDEPENDANT MECHANIC OF YOUR CHOICE

How many other folks do you know that go through two trannies in 9 months? In their daily driver?

No more of that now though.

In general, do superchargers last fairly long??  I know after about 100-120k miles, turbo chargers need rebuilt, so I was wondering if the same is true for superchargers??

The 96-98 saleens had no blower option available. In fact, all S281's had no mods performed to the engine at all. No pulleys, etc. The only thing that could make it faster was upgrading the gears to 3.55's. Other then that, they have the same hp rating as the GT. If it has a supercharged badge on the car, it has been added by a previous owner.
