Hey, just got my fosgate P2 single voice coil 4 ohm sub and p3001 amp in. My friend scared me when he said that amp might be under-powered for my sub. Anything to worry about?
Also, after looking at the amps directions, i'm confused. I know there's always a way to wire up this stuff but on the amp, there are two + & - terminals for speakers. Even thought this is a mono amp it looks as though it's two channel. Anyways, I only have one sub so how would I wire this sub to 4 ohm...it looks like if I only utilize one of the speaker outputs it has to be at 2 ohm. what gives? Thanks.

If its a mono amp the two + and - on the amp is the same no matter which on you have it in and it will not change the ohms.Just hook you speaker wire in the amp and you will have your 4 ohms.It wont be under powered
Yes, I would like to think that but in the amp's manual it shows in the diagram that if you only utilize one speaker (using only one set of +,-) then it puts it out at 2 ohms. I need it at 4.
OK i just looked up the spec's to your amp, it is basically saying if you put it going into a 4 ohm speaker you will be outputting at 150 watts RMS. If you put it into a 2 ohm speaker it will output at 300 watts RMS.
Depending on what the sub is rated at, yes it might be under powered. So with that being said let me give you a little lesson on amps and subs.
If your amp is out putting at 150Watt RMS you want your sub/speaker to be between 250 and 600 watt RMS at the most.
If your amp is out putting 300 watt RMS you want your sub to be between 400 and 800 Watt RMS at the most.
Now since your amp can run at 2 ohm load, i suggest returning that sub you purchased and buy a dual voice coil 4 ohm, or buying a second 4 ohm single voice coil sub. What this means is each voice coil/sub will be 4 ohm, and when you hook them up to the amp in parallel the amp will see it as a 2 ohm load and you will get more output of your amp.

And it also means each voice coil will be able to handle the rms power rating of the sub. So you are just going in circles.
IMO, your setup is fine. You will not be underpowering the sub. The sub you bought is rated at 200watts RMS at 4ohm, 400 watts at 2ohm. Your amp is rated at 150 watts at 4ohm, and 300 watts at 2ohm. So in your specific situation you will be running the amp at 150 watts RMS at 4ohm and the sub will be able to handle 200watts RMS at 4ohm. This should be fine. It will thump plenty loud and you shouldn't have to worry about burning up your voice coil or blowing the sub.

Thanks for the input Hawk...however I'm still confused on this...if I only use one set of speker outputes, according to the amp directions, it will output it at 2 ohms. In order for it to output it at 4 ohms (which is what I want) I would have to use both sets of +,-
It is a mono amp but w/ it's two speaker outputes it seems like it is more like two channel.
I admit I just looked up the directions for that amp and it doesn't make much sense to me either. The only thing I could recommend is hooking up each channel like the 2 speaker connection has you doing, and just run both sets of wires to your single amp. The best thing to do though is call the place wherever you bought it and ask their installation tech's how you should connect it. Good luck.
Hey, I asked the seller of my amp about this and this was his response:
No you have it backwards. The amp runs however the sub tells it to. The sub comtrols the amps ohms. Just hook it up normally and youll be fine.

Does this sound correct? If so, he is wanting me to just use one of the speaker connections which will output at 4 ohms since that is what the sub is rated at. [:-]
The sub controls the ohms not the amp,The sub can not change ohms.No matter what terminal you use it will still be 4 ohms EXAMPLE you can use the pos+ on the one side ot the terminal and the -neg on the oppisite side and it will still be 4 ohms.The only way you will see 2 ohms is either get a DVC or add another sub.
