Used Oil Analysis of many Fords using 5W20 show great results - indicating this oil is and will protect the engine for many miles. There is no reason to use a heavier oil in this engine.

I use RP 5W30 because that is what my local auto parts store carries. I don't think anyone would ever notice a difference between 5W20 and 5W30........so go with what you can find locally.

I read somewhere that the auto companies get charged a few bucks for every .1 mpg that they go over a certain government standard. That could add up to be a great deal of money! I don't seen an issue with 5W-30. If you run in a colder climate, maybe the 5W-20 is the best choice..otherwise, 5W-30 should be ok.

"By the way, if a ford service department is telling you to put in something different, i would get it in writting, from what i understand if you dont use the 5w20 and and something happens to your engine, well they can refuse warrenty work." Absolutely! +1! My brother was having problems with the front axle seals on his GMC 4X4. GM accused him of using gear lube that was not specified in the owner's manual, and actually sent a sample to a lab to have it tested. It was the correct lube and GM did honor the warranty. If GM is capable of getting that nit-picky on a technicality, you better believe Ford will if it is in their best interest. Just something to keep in mind... Mike

What oil you use isn't as important as how often you change it. Today, all the name brand oils are good. Pick a good oil, stay with it and CHANGE IT.

Ask your Acura engineer what mod I should do next. @ rt1Rebel you kill me...LOL great comments lmao here. this was an awesome thread and I learned a great deal. here is really what I took out of it to summarize: -go with what is recommended -go with a name brand -chance it often -use synthatic -don't use synthatic -ask any kind of engineer even if he works with 1.9L turbo'd engines and you have a different beast in your car -throw this whole list away and go with what you read on the internet -ask the same question like 5 time this is just IMO only!

ok do this if the engine is broke-in already use full synthetic only (prefer Royal Purple) use the recommended oil (unless Forced Induction is used) the W number is the winter test number lower=better the other number is viscosity use whats recommended do not use SM oil Do use SL oil does this clear it up

I think that says it all. Now do what Ford says.

I actually went to another forum that actually is about oil and I got some hard concrete answers not some answers recommending that I use motor craft oil which is not a full synthetic -.-. http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=206645&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 Enjoy
