ORIGINAL: Natex I'm about sure there will be a different type of engine besides the LS-1 in 2007 for that Camaro. Especially if gas prices keep acting the way they do. You're right, there will be. More than likely the LS2 will go in it. A Camaro with 400 stock hp.....mmmm. My LS1 gets 22+mpg around town and over 30 on the interstate though....so I don't think it's b/c of gas prices. Looks like Ford needs to copy GM and go more cubes plus pushrod to make power.....not GM copy'ing Ford. If they did that, they'd have a Caddy with a 4.6L motor with more than 60HP over a GT Mustang....oh wait, they do.

ORIGINAL: matthockey32 the problem with the GTO is simple, it is a Holden Monaro with a grand prix like front. the 05 mustang GT has almost 300 rwhp, that is more power than the mach 1. and they only weigh about 100-200 lbs more. on top of that, just about anything is gonna seem slow compared to an 03 cobra Id race a 03 Cobra with a 2000 Cobra R That wouldnt feal slow

I bet they'll use something like a Northstar motor in it... everything is going to way of the DOHC 4 valve. Also don't forget Lincoln had the 4.6 Intec as well. Can't remember which came first though.

How can you just now be reading about this? This concept has been in the works for a year or two now...I heard all about this just after they stopped building Camaros in 2002. quote:

I really don't know the technical stuff on those motors but I do know that my LS1 gets better mpg than the new GT's, Mach 1's, and Corba's. With more cubes and more power. I don't get how the modular motor is anymore efficient?

DOHC engines are more effecient with respect to displacement but not overall size. Pushrod engines put the rods and cam (only one, so cam swaps are 1/4 as expensive) in the unused space in the block. DOHC motors have to have huge heads, making them larger on the outside. Ever see a Mach 1 or Cobra motor? It looks like a big block. The pushrod design allows an engine to have more displacement while taking up less overall space in the engine bay. Not to mention torque. I am not a really smart gearhead or anything, I've just read about this stuff in mags.

I do not see GM using the northstar in any again. They were a good idea at first, like the Olds Quad 4, but maintenance and reliability are the down fall for both. For example, The Northstar's starter is in the center of the engine. Have to remove the intake to replace, plus there are many other problems that require almost complete disassembly for one little part. MAN, I hate those engines!!! Caddy even did away with the n-star and went to LS1/LS6 (cts-v). As for the pushrod vs. ohc debate. Pushrod motors will create more tq on the bottom end is relatively no good for high rpm without serious mods (lifters, hardened pushrods, guide plates, etc), --- where-as ohc setup is has the ability to rev to astounding rpms, especially when you have the variable timing control.

1) I sure don't grieve over the demise of the 'Craparo' Parent company also builds Standard-American crappers and railroad loco's. We should thank Lutz of GM for causing Ford to sell even more cars--thats business. 2) With guys like Lutz running GM (or running it into the ground) are we all supposed to feel bad when we wake up some morning and hear the news that the Japs got thru leveraged buy-out or something? Think about it, when was the last time that GM came up with anything that was really new? Oh sure they re-do a 50 year old V-8 design and then act like we supposed to roll over when the same thing can be done with aftermarket parts for much less money. Next they'll be telling us about the the hi-performance Saturn 4 cyl......
