The video of the new Shelby GT500 running low 11's is simply propaganda. We are in full control of the airport....... I mean drag strips. The Camero Trans Am and Firebird were by far the best muscle car's ever built. We only stopped production of these vehicles to allow the Mustang to step out of our shadow. At no time did we invent these cars to compete with the Mustang.Plans for these auto's were in the design process long before the Mustang. Our GM engineers worked diligently on the Ford GT for Ford Motor Co so they had a car that could hand the C6 Z06 it's ass.
The gt500 is awesome for sure....but the base C6 out performs it stock for stock....i'm not even going to bring up the C6 Z06. Factory blown is defineatly an advantage when it comes to mods...but i've also heard that it's not as easy to mod as a 03/04 cobra. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11150/heavy-pedal.html
If you don't wanna read the whole article it basically says the gt500 is just too heavy for its own good...even with 100 less hp the base C6 walks it.

No I've read all the articles from CD MT etc.But it apears the GT500 isn't coming from the factory with all it's pony's running. One of our sponsor's just gave it a tune no bolt ons and it ran low 11's far faster than the c6 and well with in reach of the Zo6.Something just wasn't adding up when you have a Gt running mid 13's and add 200 plus Hp and only run Mid to high 12's.As far as handeling the vette gets the nod hands down.

The LS1 is a superior motor. The blower on the 03/4 cobra levels the field, but motor-wise, the LS1 totally owns 99% of ford's stuff. It revs high for a V8 (domestic) pulls from idle to redline, and gets better mileage than the 4.6L's. The cars it was put in handle better, have a better driveline (minus the ****ty 10 bolt) and are only MARGINALLY heavier (not counting Vette's). As far as "any ford product" thats a stretch. But Ford could sure learn from GM. and the F-bod was discontinued due to lack of sales and the mandatory redesign it would have faced due to new safety regulations. It lacked sales because they NEVER advertised it. GM counted on other cars to keep them afloat while the only thing Ford has is the police contracts (dwindling), the F150, and the Mustang. Gm counted on their econo cars and trucks, not the pony cars.
*Mach1's come very close but have less aftermarket and are more complex and still dont get the mileage. They also make less power but the car is lighter and it makes up for the small defecit.

I wouldn't mind having either one. I love American cars.
Looks like you have an LS1 = car, or close to it judging by your sig and the 05 GT is better built than the F-bods in my opinion, that being said my next car will prolly still be a 99-01 SS 6-speed car.

The car has to get 10 miles on it before the computer learns the supercharger

A properly driven GT500 will eat a C6 up at the strip, you can't go by this magazine bs.
Handling is a totally different story, but you should see evan smith's time in the GT500. Low 12s (I think 12.2).
yeah, i don't know about those times. they seem a little fabricated. i was thinking about that article in mm&ff the other day and went back to see if they listed his 60ft times. i was definately assuming he was spanking all these other mags times because was launching the shelby like an allstar. they listed his best 60ft as like a 2.1x so i'm a little confused on how he ran half a second faster than every other mag out there. does this seem strang to everyone else. i figured the reason he ran so fast was badass 60fts which was not the case. and any idiot can shift at redline 3 times down the strip. so maybe mm&ff was trying to give the shelby a much needed boost after it started getting dogged for being slow. i dunno. thought anyone???

my thought is screw magazines... one of the sponsors here ran an 11.8 with just a tune, and a semi decent launch on DRs, real world vs magazines= i'll go with the real world... it obviously has some balls and some killer potential. i think it's going to be the exact same thing as the terminator vs the C5 Z06 all over again, pulley/tune+catback= Z06 going down.
Evan Smith ran a 12.23 @ 118 or so with the GT500, on an actual drag strip. The other magazines don't use a prepped drag strip and they use their own recording equipment, nor do they powershift the cars.
The GT500 is not an 11-second car stock. DRs and a tune might get it there, but that's not stock. And I doubt it's going to be outrunning any C6 Z06s anytime soon.

Alright this is not OFf Topic and the flame fest posts are going to stop. The next person who trys to stir up crap in here is going on post approval. I do not have time to baby sit you kids all day, and this crap is going to stop right now. The Mustang is a cool car, the f-body is a cool car so lets just leave it at that. Geeze I feel like a 4th grade teacher.
