within my next two paychecks i will be getting ether an xcal2 & c&l or just an xcal2. would somebody be able to tell me what the hp difference between the two is. thanks
RE: advantages of cai & xcal2 rather than an xcal2
Your gonna get the most gains with a programer rather then a cold air intake, especially on a stock car. My guess would be that your gonna get about 10-12 with the cold air intake, and then with them together maybe 18-26 hp after it is tuned.
RE: advantages of cai & xcal2 rather than an xcal2
The XCal2 will allow you to get rid of the throttle lag and improve the overall performance but in combination with the CAI you see even more of an improvement. The engine needs to breath to produce more RWHP and the CAI and dual exhaust will give you better airflow. I saw a 40RWHP gain (169 to 209) when I added the CAI, duals and a custom tune. Good luck!

I would like to echo the same thing, and add that the advantage of buying a tuner and CAI together is a lower combination price. I got mine from http://www.evoperform.com/. Their price is $565, and I got two dyno pulls included. If you buy them separately, you'll end up paying more.
Hey NCMustangMan, good to see ya 'round these parts again!!!

+1
That seems to be the most bang for the buck mod there is, short of some sort of power adder (n2o, turbo, supercharger).
I'm in the same boat for wanting a CAI and tune. Just do a lot of research. Somewhere around here is a link to an article on different CAI, and the gains experienced for each one. Does anyone know where it is? Oh yeah, yes it was written using a current GT, but all the CAI in the article are now being made for our V6.

28hopup,
I see you got the CAI done at Evolution Performance. Did it cost you $565 including installation? Were you satisfied with Evolution? I want to get it done, but I don't have the funds right now.........well I have $250 to spend right now, but that's not enough.

I was planning to install the C&L and tune myself. Brought my tools up to change it out in their parking lot. Once it was up on the dyno for the "before" pull, Fred wanted to keep the car up on the dyno rather than unload and reload it as I had planned. They were also working on their '07 GT500, and the day kinda dragged on with a lot of waiting around, so they didn't charge me for the install. Being a shop, they would have charged for installation normally.
Evolution was great, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I'm running their 93 Extreme tune, and I am pleased with the improved low/mid range torque and minimized throttle lag (it's just barely there, but oh so much better than before). I wouldn't say it's a whole new car, but the C&L and xcal2 certainly turned it into the car Ford should have built in the first place.

Guys,
Again what is throttle lag? Is this where I hit the accelerator and it takes a week for the car to "jump" into passing gear?
Basically. It takes a while to get used to once its gone though. Before I always had to punch it when I wanted to pass someone, after tuning it seems like the second I punch the gas I'm at 6kRPM and have increased 10MPH+.
