I was thinking why not just run both and then ajust the subwoofer level on my radio when I dont want as much bass. But if I was only goin to go with 1, I could buy a cheaper amp.

And I think 2 type R's in the stangs small trunk is gonna be a lot of bass, to much bass for hard core rock songs.

Personally, I would go with a single sub and bridge the amp. Lets say that you have a 2-channel amp thats 500W total (250 per channel.) In theory (i.e. if the amp was perfect), if you bridged this amp you would end up with 100W and not 500W like most people would think. And the impedance should remain the same.

Now obviously you can't get a perfect amp, but you can still boost that one channel pretty close to 4X the output of a single channel.

hey man...the 2 12" Type Rs would be fine for rock...i have the 2 10" versions and the 1000W Alpine amp...it BUMPS when i listen to rap/hiphop and when i listen to rock they supply nice tight bass...but with the 500W amp you have you'd be better off only using one...you won't be sending enough power to two

well i bought the 12's cuz i got them 4 an insane deal when i use to work at best buy.

and the JL audio 500/1 is a mono channel amp, which is the only kind you should be used when pushing subs.

cuz 2 channel amps suck in most situations.

I like bass, but in my town way to many people over due it. You can either drown out music with too much bass, or take the time to get the right amount so your music sounds exactly how you like. Some may prefer one subwoofer, some may two.

I put two infinity 10's in mine and I adjust the bass and subwoofer levels on the head unit depending how much bass I want
