I don't get harrassed now...but there had been a time(many years ago)where I new they had it in for me.I had a Ford with a 429CID ,that I absolutely loved. This was a loud car when I openned her up.Before to long I realized when I was doing my usual cruise there was a plain car at every corner.Everytime I openned her up I got what was coming to me.Lost my license in 30 days.

I don't think it's so much that they are harrassing you as they are catching you doing somthing you should not. Like it or not we have speed limits, and they are there for a reason. You chose to speed, wheather on purpose or not, and got caught, it's not really the cops fault for doing thier job.

not true man i got ****ed by the police so many times i dont have a license right now. In fact once i turned on to a road that was a school zone for 500 feet but it said end school zone 25 mph and i went to 28 and got clocked after the sign by a cop sitting in someones driveway at 28 mph in a school zone that was supposed to be 15. yeah and if ur car is really clean they seem to follow you. i see cops follow suv's with big rims alot around here. its a scare tactic. im working on a flip license plate right now. no joke.

That's no excuse, really... it should have been corrected at the time of modification... they'll still ticket you because either way about it you were above the speed limit.
I'm surprised that the officers around here don't target me. I FLEW past one once and he did nothing... this was like 70-80 in a 50... he was in the right lane about to go onto a highway onramp in traffic, and my lane was empty... he had no lightbar and I had just noticed the state trooper logo on the side of the car as I went by and got the worst feeling... no more criminal speeding for me, ever. Yesterday, I was cruising with Fastlane034 here on the forums, we were doing maybe 40-41 in a 35, traffic was catching up with us. Four lanes in our direction, with space behind us, a trooper pulls up to the intersection in front of us on the right side... I downshifted to shed a couple MPH, so I ended maybe 39 in the 35 as I went past him... he didn't even seem interested, we were the biggest target in the world... 18 yr old driving a black 04 stang, followed by an even younger guy in a black 06 stang... I'm really surprised he didn't turn to follow us just to look for some stupid reason to pull at least one of us over. Thankfully, the officers around here don't seem too interested in me, that or I've been lucky. I've seen a lot of ricers pulled over, though :D

Not a good excuse anyway... I mean think about the argument. You are going to tell the cop that you got new gears in and its off by 3 MPH? Well hell, you just told him that you knew it was off and you even told him how much it was off! So if you know that its off by 3 MPH and it says you are going 50, then you know you are going 53 by your own admission!
Not saying that you should get a ticket for osmething that small... but using that argument is just plain bad, LoL

Also consider that when u do stupid sheet there are regular citizens that will call the cops & complain about you. Its difficult for the cops to do any thing because any body could be driving your car & have to prove it was you driving. So they wil eventually get to know you & your car. If they get complaints about your car they can hassel you by keeping a close eye on you & pulling you over for the smallest infraction.
You wil always get the "eye" when you drive a fast looking car.

The cops follow because there's plenty of morons out there who make it easy for them to fill their quotas. It's because of those morons that the rest of us have to get harassed from time to time.
There's a way to combat it, though.
Keep a pad of paper and a pencil with you at all times. Every time a cop gets on yer ass and just ghosts you around, copy down his plate number and the unit number. Then, pull out her cell phone, and report him/her. Unless they got some reason to be following you (ie yer wanted for something) they aren't supposed to be doing that and can get in trouble for it. It's considered harassment and provocation.
Once when I was renting a vert, some dickhead cop ghosted my bumper for nearly 30 miles, waiting for me to break speed so he could nail me. And we're not talking just cruising back a few lengths, he was right on my flip'n bumper, pushing. Fed up, I pulled out my cell phone and started looking back to read the numbers on his car, making sure he saw me doing it. Within seconds he backed off, then took off. Too late, though. I had the plate. :D
Cops should be enforcing the law, not harrassing people.
If you ask me, they should be ghosting the damn ricers. I see far more plastic-geared rice-humpers streaking down the highways around here than anything else! Gonna get someone killed... [>:]

Happends to me constantly, they've nitpicked the shi#$ out of my car, gave me a ticket for no front plate, for loud exhaust, and one for no seatbelt. I've been pulled over 10 times in the last month. And am followed almost everytime i drive my car. It's flippin annoying, lol they're gunna cause me to crash cuz i keep my eyes glued to my speedo when they follow me. I know that i should have a front plate, my exhaust is annoying but theres is louder around here, and i should wear my seatbelt, but damn there is better things to be done then to harrase me....doesnt it just bug the **** out of you when your pulled over on the side of the road for something stupid and u see like ten others breaking the law in a worse way

100% Absolute Complete BS. There is nothing preventing a cop or anyone from following your vehicle. You are driving on a public way! This is not harassment in any way shape or form and there is no law against it. Just because you don't like something...that doesn't make it illegal or against some policy.

You guys need to be proactive about defending your own rights. Start reporting the cops that follow you around like that, and make them realize that you won't settle for that crap. It's harrassment and entrapment, and they can get in trouble for it.

I never really have a problem with the cops. I know 2 of the county sheriffs, one has a grand national and one has a 74 camaro. I've raced both of them on the street before. Only time I've really had a problem with a cop in my area was when I had bungee cords holding my hood down and a state trooper saw me. I told him I was taking it too a shop to put the hood pins in and he didn't even give me a warning. I live in a red neck area and the cops are really concerned more about important stuff then following some kid in a mustang.

If it is against the law then please cite me the specific law that is being violated. If you cannot cite the specific law, then please tell me how you know it's illegal. I assume you have some sort of background in criminal law? Or is this something you just "heard" from other people? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's illegal.

I get it a lot. Got followed twice this past week. I just see these headlights hauling ass from 3/4 a mile away and I know it's a cop. My tires wailed a little after making a sharp turn, so I figured he was going to nail me for that. I play it cool by acting like he's a tailgater so I move over a lane to let him pass and sure enough he pops right behind me.
He followed me for about 5 blocks before pulling up next to me, flashed his light in my girlfriend's face, so I rolled down my window. Then he said "your tires bucked a little back there, I could've given you a ticket for exhibition of speed. Slow down when you turn." All the while he couldn't keep eye contact with me.. what a vagina. I say "Yeah, I heard. Thanks!"
I think cops really appreciate it when you don't slow to a crawl just because you see them. I stay at 1-5MPH over the limit and pull over so they can pass, or at least speed up so they can get behind me and slingshot around the traffic.

It might be that my car looks like a dope dealers car, but hey its my car and Ill do whatever I goddamn please to it. But I can relate to the people that get it, one time I had gotten 8 tickets in 2 months. Granted I deserved some of em but others we're just plain BS. I got a ticket for an AIR FRESHENER, 3 points - obstruction of view and/or control, right along with that I got the same ticket for tinted windows. 6 points - wtf?!?!?!? When I got those I joked to the cop ' hell, I shouldve just killed someone with my car it wouldve only been 5 points' he didnt find it very funny. All I gotta say to them is _.|.. F. U. PIG!!!!!!! I have a habit of toying with cops... leaving it in a low gear so its a constant 3500RPM when cops are next to me, pulling up at stop lights and droppin the top, passing them going 3 over, then getting infront of them and going the speed limit....
yeah, I am pretty much asking for it, and a TON of cops follow me, and the same ones. I have seen their VIN or w/e you call it on the side of their car, and it's usually the same few guys just following me. If they get on my ass, i just got 10under... and have once gone 15 in a 40 with my hazards on...
but yeah, never had a ticket, been pulled over 6 times. One time i was close, he wsaid i was going 51 in a 45 (i knew i was going 61 the whole time). So i asked to see the radar, and he walked to his car, walked back to mine, then said I would jsut recieve a warning?

Where i live there are cops everywhere and you dont speed unless you can afford the ticket. Im 18 and had my license suspended twice and had to take that dumb driver improvement class. Next ticket is revoking of license. Needless to say i dont speed now. Until July 23 2007 when my license is cleared... And id watch out with the flipping license plate. This is absolutely true. If you are driving aggressively and someone calls 311 and reports the activity, and your license plate, the person taking the call puts a note on your dmv record. If you get pulled over, the officer will see it and take this into consideration when deciding to let you off with a warning or give you a ticket. This is kind of unfair because people can just arbitrarily call on you and say whatever they want and they'll put the note down. I'm sure there are people that would call on you just for merging into traffic, or because they are a racist, or [insert stupid reason here]. I guess the theory is if they hear from a lot of people about you, you are probably driving like an idiot and deserve a ticket.
Aside from this, this is a really interesting thread. I've been driving a stock 97 escort for a while (yea it was torture but I have a mortgage, a 5 year old, and I was biding my time8), and speed often, though I never push it too far, or drive aggressively (following closely, swerving around people, etc). Generally I just keep up with the nutcases so they don't ride my bumper. I usually stick to slow lane, but if flow of traffic is 75mph, I go with the flow. If people in slow lane are being deadbeats I pass them. I never camp the fast lane because that's begging for it.
I got a new GT because the wife's car is paid off and now I get a new car >8).
It will be interesting to see if I get pulled over in the GT as opposed to getting ignored like I did in the escort. I'm going to try really hard to not drive differently but it will be tough not to:D
I'll update this in a week or two and let the board know if anything changes. I live in a large metropolitan area so it's not like I have the only GT in town, like someone else posted, and there's only two police. If I get pulled over by all different police, then it's probably the car. I've only ever gotten one ticket a really long time ago and haven't been pulled over in the last 8 years or so.

I've only been followed once so far in the month I've had the car. It was at night and I was the only one on the road. How long does it take to run a plate to check for warrants at 45 mph, a few hundred yards... He followed me for over 4 miles before a speeder came the other way and got priority attention. If they can't find a reason to pull you over they will make one up, in Michigan your guilty until proven innocent when it comes to traffic laws, the judge ALWAYS, with out exception, sides with the cops. The prick cops know this and think they are gods. I've been followed by the pigs for miles, so I pull into a gas station to get them off my back, he follows me in and turns on his lights and starts harrasing. Then trumps up some B.S. charge. Disagre with them and you get arrested for disorderly conduct. I had a cop follow me over a mile into another township, across the border and follow me into my work parking lot, the pig was out of juristiction. He said he was in "pursuit". Yet he didn't turn on is lights until we were in the parking lot, and the little penis prick stopped at a frickin stop light that was green for me. You run the gauntlet with the cops in the Metro Detroit area at night in any kind of bright colored sporty car.

I don't get followed because I have been driving a Crown VIC police interceptor for the past 2 yrs. I get waved at alot. It has Firefighter platesand that helps also. I was pulled over in middle of night on bridge to philly I was speeding and he pulled up behind
imediately shut off lightbar gave me a beep beep with the electric horn and drove away. I was stopped while going to a house fire( I even had My blue LED bars going. once we stopped he then pulled up along side of me and Said " my bad" and waved me away.
If you want to really get back at the ones who know you, get a better police car than they have. yours will be nice and thay have to follow you around in their beater.

I definately get harassed and followed him my town. I put QTec Exhaust cutouts under my baby, I have pretty dark tints and have temp plates from another town simply because I plan on uninsuring my car this winter. (No use getting new plates until after the rebuild this winter).
I guess I deserve it.

I may be a little behind, but...
-there are not any laws against a cop following you, but there are laws for following too close behind someone.
I have one cop that constantly badgers me, BUT HE HAS A REASON. I haven't broken a law in my town in over 2 years and he still follows me around. He has been rude to me every time I've seen him, since he had to drop the street racing charges. My friend and I went by him racing and he was out of the car, didn't get to clock us, and by the time he got in his car, we were already running the speed limit again(so he couldn't even gauge our speed). His only argument was that our engines were revved up...got lucky, but I have been careful every since.
I was with another friend riding around on a cool Friday night and there was an officer following us very, VERY closely(I mean dangerously close). A deer jumped across the highway, my buddie slammed on breaks, and we got rear-ended. The officer tried to write us up for wreckless driving even though we argued that he was following too close. A few days later, the chief of police viewed the recording off of the officers in-car camera...charges were immediately dropped.
...Police screw up just like anyone else, it's just when we screw up, they have a reason to follow us. Don't give them a reason to bother you, and they can't really do anything to you but stare and be jealous of what you have.

And thats not the first time its happened

I got followed all the time. I havent had my mustang that long, i only drove it about 2 months before i put it up for the winter and decided to do a HCI and it still not done :(
But in my old car they followed me alot, especially in this lil amish town. I've been pulled over more than 6 or 7 times in that car by the same cops, they are huge dicks too. Also a radar detector kindof helps. I also have a phaser II, and i'm pretty sure it really does work. But the first encounter i had with a cop with that it "didnt" work. He said i was going like 42 in a 25, but he was sooooo far away, it couldnt have been true. Those cops only come out like 12 hours a week, no joke. a few hours on thursday night and friday night. But they were young, and thought they were tough as ****. And at the time my speedo didnt work properly because they gears were changed and the speedo gears werent changed to match. I told him my hole situation, but he had to be a hardass and give me a ticket. I took it to court, ( didnt see the cop there by the way ) and even before i got into the court room the prosecutor wanted to talk to me. I showed him the papers that i got it fixed and i had a large stack of papers to fight the case, all about showing proof of their equipment and stuff ( pretty easy to win a traffic case if you ask for evidence ). He droped it from like 17 over to 4 over so it didnt go on my record. I paid the fine and walked away.
And running from the cops in a car is a prety bad idea, pretty hard to get away. Thats where the cock rocket comes in ;)
But yea, cops suck and they follow cars that are sporty and loud and look good, especially with a young person drivin.

I would have to agree with this statement... I have a yellow 94 GT and I am followed and pulled over all the time... I was once pulled over for doing 53 in a 50... The police officer asked how fast I thought I was going and I told him 55... He said, "No, 53... Slow it down... I am giving you a verbal warning this time." Also, I don't know how many times I have seen police officers make U turns and ride my ass for a couple of miles.... Also, I had this one state trooper follow me for 10 miles in the dark... He would turn his headlights off and flash them at me... Finally, we came to a stop light and he pulled next to me... I looked over and waved at him... When the light turned green, he sped off... The cops love my car... It sucks! I have so many other stories I could tell ya'll... lol

Oh yea I do. Here are my stories....
Ok pulling out of my work, I usually go slow so my car does't scrape, then ease up to speed. Well no one in the lane so i pull out, all of a sudden I see headlights, so I open up a little bit to get at the speed of the "car" i didn't know what it was. So I was going bout 40 in a 35. (It was pitchhh black) the car comes up on me, i stop at a light. I see it's a cop so I was alright sweet. So then I go 30 in a 30 pull in my neighborhoods new road and he pulls me over. He says, "Why you turning in here?" I say cuz i live in here.... "Oh" Thne he says, why did you accelerate so quick? I said cuz you were coming on my ass quik then he was like ok. Then said dont do it again.... I'm like WTF?! I didn't even do anything and he had no idea how fast i was going so no reason..
Then there was this....
I'm on a 35 mph road, i was going bout 38 i change lanes go up to 40 and pass a car, slow down and pass another car, and slow down. Well this cop comes from aboot a block behind me pulls me over and says, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said these exact words, "Because I changed lanes." He said it was the way you changed lanes... I was like okay..... He said "see all these people you changed lanes infront of put on their brake lights and that tells me you cut them off. I said no because when I see I am able to change lanes with out cutting them off I change lanes... He said "See all these old people dont have the reaction time you young people do.." And let me off with not ticket.
Just because I have a mustang they think i speed, or do something illegal. Both had no right to pull me over. The second cop was a block BEHIND me and couldn't see if I cut them off..

1. I talked with a local cop about it in colorado where i'm from. He said there's over 660 moving violations possible for a motorist to commit. He said, if you're cool, not burning out at lights and being dumb, they'll leave you alone, but if you're acting dumb they'll get you for sneezing in a crosswalk. (just an outlandish not-true example, don't knock it)
2. Yeah we get harassed, but I see alot more toyota camrys and stuff like that getting pulled over than stangs. it's often the people with the average car that go fast. Us, we don't need to prove it, we already know we can.
3. Ricers should def get hit alot more than us. I live in Albuquerque right now and ricers (well, people in general) here drive SOMETHING AWFUL! I can't believe what they get away with, while I hear about our kind (dang, we sound like our own ethnicity) getting hit right and left.
Peace.

I got followed once or twice, but local cops usually are more apt to tail younger drivers. I remember once I was leaving the local post office and driving a block to a hardware store. (My car was on the loud side!) As I shifted through the gears I saw a cop parked across from the hardware store. I wasn't speeding or anything. But I'm sure he heard me coming. LOL! I turned into the hardware store parking lot and as I parked, the cop drove in and parked next to me. I rolled down my window to ask what was wrong and he kind of smiled and asked what I had as far as mods. Come to find out, he knew me from the previous car I had, a 1994 Callaway Camaro. I used to take it to a local tuner where he worked before becoming a cop. So two fellow gearheads had a neat conversation. Pretty cool cop! ;)

Only time I've ever been pulled over in my stang was doing 135+ in a 65 which was clearly my fault. Other than that they leave me alone. Was followed
more in my jeep than my stang, but I drove my jeep like a madman, any and everywhere I could. And Ive driven by a few cops doing 15+ over the speed limit quite a few times. Im guessing the bacon around here is lazy then.

my favorite cop story:
I was driving from Boston MA to Hartford CT at like 2 am. On the mass turnpike (I-90) there are a few toll booths. As I pull into the booth and give the person my money, a black Firebird pulls up in the one next to me....
two sports cars...dead stop...perfect straight-away.....2 am.... i think you know where this is going....
we both peeled out and about 1/4 mile down the stretch we were still neck and neck.
all of a sudden we fly by a cop parked with his lights off and we both drop from like 90-100 mph to like 75 as fast as we can....the cop just flashed his brights at us a few times and never came after us
we were both lucky, cuz when we passed the cop, we were both definetly still accelerating....
never did tell who won that race [>:]

I hate driving on highways, because they can ticket you without ever seeing you. If you travel between 2 tolls to fast, they will send out tickets. I recieved a written warning one time, because my average speed was 73 in a 65...

Cops tail young kids in fast or fast-looking cars because kids in fast or fast-looking cars do the stupidest crap on the road.
65 year old men dont pull up next to you at a red light and start revving their engine and yelling "yo dawg yo u aint got **** ize the race car master of da werld". If older folks want to race, they know where the track is.
Young guys also think they're hot **** drivers, but really aren't. They wander over lines, dont maintain constant speeds, etc, which looks to an onlooker like a drunk.
I thought I was a kickass driver when I was 17, and realize now that I wasn't, and those cops followed me around and pulled me over for a reason.
Cops are people, and with any group of people, some of 'em are jerks, some are really cool. But they aren't stupid, and if they see you acting like a wingwang on the road once, they'll remember, and tell their colleagues "keep an eye out for the kid with the nosering in the blue mustang, saw him doing burnouts in the 7-11 the other night"

Hmmm... I never get harrassed or pulled over. In fact I see the opposite, people seem to behave in their driving around me.
Is that because of the "Active Member - Fraternal Order of Police" license plate frames? hahaha :)

I find it amazing that you all hate cops because they pulled you over when you were speeding or doing something else wrong. If your car was stolen, broken in to or hit who are you going to call ~ not the ghostbusters! If your doing something wrong and get caught, don't wine about - it's your fault! I don't have any problems with the cops and I don't know any of them. I do my fair share of speeding and such, but if I do it and get caught - my fault. (knock on wood) And as far as being followed, nobody thinks the cop is going the same direction as you are? Just my .02

I know that i should have a front plate, my exhaust is annoying but theres is louder around here, and i should wear my seatbelt, but damn there is better things to be done then to harrase me....doesnt it just bug the **** out of you when your pulled over on the side of the road for something stupid and u see like ten others breaking the law in a worse way
what do you mean you dont wear a seatbelt????????

LOL Love the donut comment.... And yes i do eat donuts :P... (and imagine i am still not fat)
Well lets start by saying that i am a Deputy Sheriff... Thereare several reasons for a "cop" to see our cars and follow you and check your plates or as some of you say harass you. Just imagine this for a second .. Your car gets stolen. Hmm what a concept.. cop sees your fancy ass kicker and well its simpletheyliketo look at it. But ask yourself, what ifyour car was stolen (you own a nice car why wouldntsomeone want to steel it?)and the cops just drive by it because they figure well that guy will just get pissed for me following him... and yet he could have found your stolen car (imagine how many stolen vehicles and warrants are attached to license plates its a common action by the police not just directed at you). AND MOST OF ALL YOU OWN A FLASHY CAR IT WILL GET NOTICED BY EVERYONE!! so you speed or do some stupid **** your screwed.... simple concept if your gonna break the law dont do it in stupid places.. such as a school zone. talk about pull ur head out of ur ass. I do agree however that there are cops that will just be prics and mess with you over and over. its a simple concept, go to the police station or sheriff's department and file a WRITTEN complaint.. A written complaint will force the department to do an investigation on the officer... If your going to do this have ur facts ready dates of contacts andactions done by the officer, the reason he said he contacted you and so on... As for license plate lights.. I refuse to contact and idividual for that purpose unless i need to contacted the vehicle for a seperate serious offence (suspition of transporting drugs weapons gang bangerssomething should i say important). and being contacted for 79 in a 75 is a BS contact!
Inturn keep in mind that id say its 50:50.. Just keep in mind what you have done to attract the attention. You screw up time after time ya yourgoing toget contacted again and again. to sum it up leave them alone and they will leave you alone...... If your not doing anything wrong then dont be so paranoid...
i do appologize for the rant

FINAL statement window tint that is to dark is a safety issue for the vehicle operator and police... how well can you see out the side windows an night??? and to educate you on the exhaust.. In almost every state in theUS it is illegal to modify your factory exhaust to emitt a louder sound then the factory exhaust.. it is illegal to modify your suspention unless you have a factory installed suspention.. If you have any of these problems you can be pulled over time and time again untill you fix the problem.
Ok here is my point i cruis my car out of town denver, vail, avon, silverthornearea where i do not live! I live approximately 100 miles from denver.. the point here is my window tint is to dark i have no front license plate my front window tint is to low onto the windshield and as we all know with a fast car what do you do? SPEED.. I have never been pulled over or followed by the police. infact i welcome to be followed. why because by chance one day that my car is stolen i am glad to know that the police are doing there job and just may find it before it gets to the chop shop...........................
Sorry to add i read the last two pages of the forum.
Most of the posts in this forum seem like whining. STOP!
SPEED = TICKET
DARK WINDOW TINT = TICKET

The Memphis cops never mess with me, not even the cop that was tailgating me when my tags were out of date and I did not have Cats on the car. It seemed I was going too slow for him. It may be my age or the worthless cops in Memphis. I drive through school zones all the time and people fly past me and there is never a cop to stop them. Try living in a crime infested city and you don't have to worry about tickets, but not getting your car stolen is a different story. I do travel alot and got a few tickets in a small town where the cop told me the speed zone starts at the "Reduce Speed Ahead" sign, so I was speeding. The next time I was driving through that town I got a ticket when I was leaving town because I spead up to the speed on the sign I could see, but the cop said the speed zone starts after I get past the sign.

I definately get the stink eye from cops more now since I got the Mustang. I suppose it doesn't help that it's red. I had a modded Grand Prix and it was still invisible. It was a lot easier to mess around on the streets and not get noticed.

I got pulled over by a local who was looking for a reason. He felt I had not come to a complete stop when taking a right. After I was finished sucking up he gave me a warning and sent me on my way. Because he looks at my car whenever I see him, I feel we are now buddies and I smile and wave. Recently, he was on traffic duty, saw me, said something to his fellow officer, and they both waved.

I get followed because I have the bright hugger orange...but once they realize its a 4banger they let off...but some aren't smart enough to know so they follow me anyway...I have actually had a cop ask why I was going so slow (i was going up a hill)....I looked him in the eye and said..."It's just a four banger"...then he kinda just shut up and said to drive a bit faster...

In fact once i turned on to a road that was a school zone for 500 feet but it said end school zone 25 mph and i went to 28 and got clocked after the sign by a cop sitting in someones driveway at 28 mph in a school zone that was supposed to be 15. yeah and if ur car is really clean they seem to follow you. i see cops follow suv's with big rims alot around here. its a scare tactic. im working on a flip license plate right now. no joke.
