Im goin 2 b purchasing a new cobra wether its 03 or 04 pretty soon, and i wuz just wondering how is its acceleraton overal.
I mean we know that it can go 0-60 like a missel but mid speed such ass 60-70 mph dose it still have that boost so i can pass up cars like its 0-60?

And how about the quick stop-go- slipage? say im in 1st gear and i accelerate will it spin alot or just a lil spin, or is it better 2 start in 2nd gear and pull off quicker.

even in stock form 60-100 is only a few seconds. NO trouble getting there. its almost unreal how quick this one is, with my $3k worth of mods. i havent had it to the track yet (i'm running the M3 again soon) but i'm fully expecting low 11's on mickeys. i'll let y'all know.

if your rolling in first, like 5 mph, and stomp it, you will vaporize your tires in a huge cloud of smoke. respect the throttle on these things, they have very large cajhones!

not to be insulting, but i would highly reccomend an orinentation class at a driving school for andbody who is not used to a car with this kind of power. someone used to a civic would s*** in one of these! they are no joke. 390 is very conservative.

hehehhe sounds nice , i wuz thinking bout buying a Mach 1 but if i can get a Cobra ill take it.

Ya 390 is alot but ill be modding it quite a bit to get it in the 400's.

So the stock tires r not that good for traction? I dont know much about tires i hear these Nitto, and soem other 1's r mickeys tires too?

i dont knwo about oriantation class i drive a 98 Expedtion and a 97 Expedtion and to me these things r fast and wobely in fast turns, so i dont know how im goin 2 do it with my next stang im only 16!!!!!!!!!!!!! but ill try to b calm ill only go fast on Tracks and straight away, but i need a stick shift car cuz i wanna learn stick well not learn but master it , i can drive stick but it stall on stops and stuff like that quite a bit. so this will b my learning car + everyday driving car.

machs are good too. almost run 12's in the quarter, stock.

what i meant by 390 conservative is it actually has more power than that. when i got mine it spun 382 at the tires, stock. which translates to ~420 at the crank, which is where the 390 is supposed to be. ford underrates it.

yes mickeys are tires. they are some of the better drag tires available. nittos are just all around good tires. i use potenzas for daily driving. good life and affordable.

the driving class was not directed at you, but everybody in general who has not had experience with, dare i say, a supercar like the 03 cobra. somebody used to low power cars or a new driver could seriously hurt or kill themselves or somebody else in a car this powerful. drive or take a ride in one and you'll understand. think abou it like this- while i havent tested it in its current trim, it should be quicker in the quarter than a Ferrari Enzo. and ferrari won't sell you one unless you are a "preferred buyer", which means you either have to take a ferrari driving school, or have owned a car (or 5) like this previously.

only 16? heck, i'm only 19. i have 2 nice cars, a house, a fiance, and a dog ($650 shepherd). if you stay in school, keep your mind right, work hard, and save your money instead of blowing it on menial things, you should be able to get a new car by the time you are 20. swallow your pride and drive a beater now, and you'll appreciate it that much more when you get your 06 cobra. i drove an 89 escort with 300,000 miles on it for 2 years b4 i got my v6stang.

good things come to those who wait. good luck my friend.

Thanks man for the follow up.

Ya ill try on the spelling and stuff and " slang "

Alright well lucky me i have loving parents and a very loving/giving dad.
My thoughts wuz to buy a 03 Cobra, but no more production, next plan is 2 buy a 04 Cobra and sell it for a 05-06. Plan C even better get a 04 Cobra maybe with Mystic Paing Color but i dont really want it cuz if i scratch it, the pain will go through my wallet into my ass and maybe even DEAPER!!!! Well least a cobra for a yr or 2 until the New Cobra comes out and trade it in, but im not quite sure how the leasing thing works. I just want a cobra until the new cobra comes out, what do you recomend i do? or do you have any sugestions?

i think a 97 or 98 would be a great starting place for you. relativly VERY affordable, insurance your parents wont have to sell the house to pay, and it will likely be the fastest thing at your school. this car will not dissapoint you. i just think this car has so many advantages goind for it for you it would be a great starting car for someone looking to get into the mustang hobby.

i just don't think a 16 year old who's been driving ford explorers, and thinks they are fast, and who can't drive a stick very well, needs to be driving an 03 cobra. that is NOT the kind of car you need to learn on. i think a GT or an older cobra will be good to get you started, and then once you have it down, step up to the 03 fully capable of handling the power. alot of people automatically think my 98 GT is fast, mainly because it sounds fast. well its not. im making do for now, and being in the army, insurance is just murder for me. im still deciding what the best way for me acheive the power i want is, build up the GT, ditch it for a 98/99 cobra and s/c that... but the best thingi  can tell you, is get your hands on something,ANYTHING with a 5spd....and just practice with it, that way if you do land a cobra, you'll be more comfortable, and of course safer to yourself and everyone on the road. like rob said, if your not used to it, or prepared for it, you will end up putting you and or others in harms way. it happens. a few years ago, a guy in my dads town made a little over 1 million overnight in the stock market, sold his stock, bought a small ferarri, crashed it and killed himself the same day. honestly i'd be suprised if your parents insurance company would insure you at all on that car. just do what you can to prepare yourself, and if you get it, be responsible.

I agree completely with BCisme.

My dad MADE me drive a 97 Mercury Tracer LS Station Wagon 5-speed for months before he let me drive the 5-speed 5.0, just so he could test my responsibility, make sure I was completely comfortable with a stick shift, and comfortable with driving overall.

Believe me, you learn a lot in your first 6 months of driving. I absolutely would not want to be around a new driver in a 6-speed, "390" horsepower rocket.

If you insist on something with "cajones" to start with, i'd say a cheap 5-speed Fox-body 5.0

BCisme, his parents insurance company won't care how old he is or who he is, he won't be listed as the owner or primary operater.

But I agree totally. Had my Iroc been pushing 250HP when I FIRST got my license, I would of kissed a pole and snapped my neck. I'm not trying to insult you or anything man, but I hope that you're parents put you in a V6 or early SN95 GT. You are only 16, you shouldn't be worried about having 400hp for your birthday present.

Do it smart, gain experience driving a slower car.

You can compare you're story to an everyday average Joe, going from driving Geo Metro's to a Nascar Winston Cup car at a road course...something just won't fly right.

ok ok, u guys make alot of sense, what cars do you guys recomend? not a high hp engine but not anything slower then a Expedition i wuz thinking a SVT Lightning but again 2 much power, then a Focous SVT but for some reason my dad dosent think there safe enought for me, then a Harley Davidson 2003, high HP but not Mustang HP, i just want a car or truck if its a car i want it to be stick shift, a truck faster then most trucks out there. I perfer a ford since my sister works for ford and can get us a discount so high that we would pay even lower then MSRP. So my choices r a SVT Focous, Mustang w/ 5 speed manual, or a Mach 1. Or are there any other choices out there such as a ewwwwwwww camaro.

BEST WAY TO START IS TO GO WITH A 98 OR BETTER GT OR COBRA.. SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET YOUR HANDS ON ONE WITH LOW MILLEAGE FOR THE LOW TEENS.. WHERE ARE YOU AT.. I PICKED A 98 GT VERT FOR MY GIRL WITH 15000 MILES ON IT AT AUCTION FROM A BMW DEALER WHO COULDN'T GET RID OF THE CAR FOR $9800.  I HAVE A DEALERS LICENSE AND BOUGHT IT AT THE ORLANDO AUCTION.. FYI..  AT SIXTEEN WITH A 5 SPEED 200+ HP IS A LOT AND MUST BE RESPECTED AND LEARNED.. EXPED.S ARE NICE, BUT YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KIND OF POWER 200 + IS IN A RELATIVELY SMALL CAR... PLUS YOUR IN HIGHSCHOOL AND I KNOW MY CAR CAUGHT DAMAGE IN HIGHSCHOOL PARKING LOTS   IE  TONS OF DOOR DINGS...

Get a 5 speed DOHC Saturn. No joke. I've got mine down to 15's (ok, 16.001 with fog on the track, otherwise 15 second car) for hardly anything, it's fun to drive, and it' easy on the gas and insurance.

And yes, it rips the balls off most imports.

That's good that you are taking our opinions into consideration. It show's a lot of maturity on your part.

I would recommend a 5 speed GT for you. Even a LS1 Z28 might be alittle too peppy for you at the moment. A Mach1 would be suitable for you too.
