I was just wondering if there is a Roots style supercharger out there for the 4.0 V6 mustang? I know most people go with the Procharger or the Vortec/Paxton, but it seems like in a lot other cars a Roots style supercharger is much more common.
I think I heard that, but I also heard that there were alot of problems with it, but now that I think about it I dont recall anybody on here having one... Does anybody even have the X Charger on here?
The TWIN SCREW!!!, YES!!!... thats actually what I was wanting to know about, I didnt realize that they were actually a different type... so I would like to know does anybody know anything about a twin screw design on the 4.0 mustang?
Not that i know of. Saleen is making a V6 GT kit supposed to be here first quater 07. They didnt tell me what its going to have but one guy said maybe a cai and oen said maybe a sc so i realy dont know. But for now there is no twin screw i dont think
twin screw blowers build the pressure in the blower itself. roots blowers use the intake manifold to build the pressure. Thats why roots blowers are so much smaller lookin than twin screw. Also why twin screws are more efficient (less heat because the intake doesnt heat up like crazy).
on the 03/04 cobras at the same PSI a twin screw makes bout 55-70 more rwhp.
I was at saleen planning to have some work done. (Which Never happened) Anyways one of the engineers was telling me their getting the tune right and their gonna take it down to the desert to test it out. They said by jan or feb. I asked what would be in it but they wouldnt tell me. so i decided to ask just sales people and the secretary. 2 told me it would have a cai 1 told me a supercharger. I dont know what to expect. I see probably a cai. It just seems to be cheaper and when i was there it seemed liek ALL the employees hated my v6 with a passion.SteveSaleen himself was the only one there who thought it would be cool to add some of the saleen stuff onto it.
EDIT: I do know it wi;ll have gears though because when we were talking bout swapping rearend and what not to get some saleen parts there they said their gears for the v6 wasnt computer tuned yet. So i dunno if that was a slip up or what. but the name was called V6 GT by all the employees.

the name blower is most commonly referring to the roots style s/c. Twin-Screw is the other stye blower that sits right on top of the manifold. The main difference b/w the roots and screw is where it builds boost as previously stated but also in the prepellers. Roots style=like the blade on the blade of a boat engine, Twin-screw= two intermeshing, with grooves exaclty like a screw, hints the name "Twin-Screw". As for a Twin-screw for our cars, whipple and KB have all stated in the past NO that they arn't thinking about developing one for the 4.0. As for saleen, I HIGHLY doubt that they are developing a twin-screw for our cars being as i don't know of any v6 twin-screw out for any car. IF they are developing some kind of s/c it will most likely be a roots style blower like what Explorer Expression i.e. X-Charger(Which we've been expecting into production since the past January.
What is most likely is a new CAI and maybe a more agressive tune. But nothing drastic.
the name blower is most commonly referring to the roots style s/c. .
True. Additionally, roots type superchargers do not make internal compression unlike twin screws or centrifugals which is one reason they are classed as "blowers". Without internal compression roots superchargers will never have the potential of twin screws or centrifugals but, after having said that, that very design allows the roots to make full boost at low rpm (often 1800-2000) which would make our V6 very hard to beat from a dig, street light to street light - even against many boosted V8s.
EDIT: Even if you can't make the kill on a boosted V8, street light to street light he'll KNOW he was in a dogfight.

Shelby makes the Paxton supercharger for the V6- it's on their CS6 Cobra. They do suggest you get the heavier rear end and brakes as part of the package. Go to shelbyautos.com for more info.
right its like the same thing as the vortec that is pretty popular around here. they are both centrafugial (sp?)... I wasnt wanting to go with one of those because they have lag like a turbo, but the draw off the engine like a normal supercharger, but they do have the possability of making the most boost, but since I am not really planning on going with more than like 7 psi I figured the twin screw would be what I want. I was confused about the twin screw and the roots and thought that they were the same thing, but after reading about it they are different and the twin screw is much better, but it is more expensive. Didnt they make a twin screw for the 4.0 on the explorers? what did they have on the ford tunderbolt? is it even F/I?
Ford Lightning - Roots style blower, Thunderbird-Roots. All s/c that ford uses are roots. and for the last time THEIR IS NO TWIN-SCREW CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR 4.0 STANGS. If you can prove me wrong i would be more than happy to admit i was wrong b/c i would love nothing more than the propect of puttn a twin-screw s/c on my stang. If Saleen does anything for our 4.0s it will be CAI and exhasut nothing more.
