Default 06 STI vs 03 GT + gears comparison

I raced my boys 06 sti w/ 3in exhaust+downpipe, tires, intake, turboback, and headers. stock turbo.. symetrical awd.

We raced 3 times from a dig.

First run, i dropped it around 3000 rpms, the nitto 555Rs (with 9 months on them) hooked perfectly.. i took the launch by half a hood.. we ran even for a little less than a quarter until power down.

Second run, 4000 rpm drop i pulled the launch, again half a hood, same acceleration same speed.

Third run was the same. The weird thing was my stock gears are so tall, i was almost redlining 2nd by the time he was shifting to third, and i was ahead a half a hood. This obviously shows that gears do help??? am i right?

I felt like if i had newer nittos, and some 373s i would have took his sti. Ill get some video for you once i get the gears.

dude whats all done to your car. . . I can usually run circles around the older stis and evos and srt's but i just raced this 06 Sti and he kicked my @$$ . . . ofcoarse i later found out he had intake/exhaust and a tuner so i guess it doesnt take much for those cars. I had him off the line then he pulled then i caught him in third and started to pull then hit forth and he pulled then up in forth i almost caught him again. It was a pretty crazy race. He said he putting out 400 but i think it was probably more like 350 or so but those sti's loose power quick when you get up high and we all know how magical the mustang gt's 3rd gear is. Its the gear that makes the person you're racing all of a sudden loose confidence. . .

Stock for stock, an STi is almost as fast as a terminator. I assume you have FI to keep up with him. With his mods, a good driver would hit mid 12's.

have any of you even seen an sti run at the track? most guys around here trap 99-101 with a stock sti they are not taking on cobras unless the cobra cant launch for ****..

Maybe a stock 06 sti. Ive got a buddy who had an 04 sti with intake, exhaust, and afew other bolt ons and he got an 04 mustang GT with 3.73's, intake, x pipe, and exhaust and he said it would run circles around his Sti and that he was really shocked and suprised. Where are you getting these facts from and besides sti's have a short power band and they run out of power fast. I know someone who has an 03 terminator with exhaust, x, cool boost and intake, and he raced an sti with headers, cams, the works. The sti killed him off the line but he caught him and ran him down. The stis have it low end but just not up top. thats not what they were built for.

. . .besides a cobra has 100 more hp and less friction loss than an sti and only weighs a little more. That cobra would have to be one lame @$$ driver to loose it to a stock sti.
