ok, so i called my local ford dealership (joe madden ford in downer's grove, il) two days ago and made an appt. to bring in my car for a moaning/groaning noise i noticed in the past week that was coming from the rear of the car during tight turns, that seemed to be getting worse. i probably wouldn't have even noticed the noise had i not read the TSB on this site, but when i listened carefully at slow speeds during tight turns i could hear it but only after highway driving. i told the guy on the phone that i knew there was a tsb for this, but he tried to tell me that it's probably my tires, or the fact my car is new, etc. that is causing the squeaking but to bring it in and they'd double check. scheduled it to be brought in today at 12:30pm.

so, i brought in my car at 12:30pm today on my lunch break. this time i didn't mention anything about the TSB to the service guy, but described my problem in the exact same way as listed in the TSB. 3:30pm i get a call, and they told me there was a TSB for this issue and that i was right, the noise was coming from the rear differential/limited slip and that they put in a new clutch pack, etc. grand total: $0. time from drop off to pick up: 3 hours. i also had my oil changed for $30 even though the car is only two weeks old since i am already over 2,000 miles, and if i did it myself i'd spend at least $20 on supplies. they kept trying to tell me i didn't need to change it yet and that i should wait until 5k. i told them to just change it anyway, so they did.

all in all, i thought this was going to be a huge hassle since i've heard the clutch packs are on national backorder, but it turned out much better than expected. even though my noise was slight, and not very noticeable, i'll be damned if i'm not going to take advantage of my warranty and fix it. and, on top of that i got a free wash and wax. my rear is quiet as can be now, and the car drives flawlessly and other than the roar of the engine, is quiet as can be. i am extremely happy i had this done, and i advise ALL of you to have this done ASAP even if it is only a minor squeak like mine, since i could tell mine was getting progressively worse. make sure you drive the car on the highway for a good 15min first, though, and then immediately get off and make slow, super sharp turns to see if you hear any squealing. again, im glad this is done and my car now drives like i expected it to - absolutely perfectly. plus i finally did my first oil change; which i advise all of you to do before the recommended 5,000 miles as they showed me my oil and it had particles in it that i could see with my naked eye. that would NOT have been good for the engine and could've caused problems.

lastly, all 05-06 owners need to check for this - it seems like a VERY common issue that most people just don't seem to take the effort to fix. i personally think it affects ALL 05s and 06s (mfg date of my car: 6/10/06) and that only a small percentage of people even notice this and get it fixed since i wouldn't have noticed had i not checked specifically for it. i couldn't hear squealing with the windows up or the radio on, and it was ONLY after highway driving and then only during SLOW, super tight turns. so, all of you should check for this ASAP and get it fixed!

I have loud mouths and can't hear anything but my exhaust. I'ts the only time i wish my car was quiet, so I could listen to the differential.

yeah...just take a slow turn at idle speed with the wheel all the way turned and the windows down and you should be able to hear it.

I totally agree, take the time to check for the noise, almost sounds like a power steering pump moan. My clutch packs were changed several weeks ago, the groan is gone, I also had them replace my fuel pump, another problem I didn't realize I a recent road trip that required hours of highway driving. It might be my imagination but the fuel pump seems to have helped the way the car drives, it seems a little more peppy:D. Probably my imagination......

Do you guys know whether or not this is just a problem for the manuals or is it also common in the autos? I haven't heard anything like that, but I also haven't tried to check for it. Lemme know please.

I just dropped mine off for this one and the hesitation after cruise issue. They told me they have already done several of the clutch pack replacements, so they are keeping a constant supply of the parts on hand. I may have to wait a bit for the new fuel pumps though.

Have mine in getting the fuel pump and the clutch pack kit installed as we speak.. Waited 3 weeks.. Can't wait to get it out.. Had them also install Homelink Mirror, Steeda Pedals, Saleen Short Throw adapter with Steeda poly bushings, Rousch Louvers, etc.. etc.. Fix everything! Took it to the damn Spa!!

Ready for the test drive.. Hope it goes well.. If not, doing a 180 in the middle of the road and taking it back!! :(

For the clutchpacks the dealer replaced after a short test drive thru the dealer parking lot to verify. For the fuel pump, I gave them my vin # over the phone, the service manager reserved the last fuel pump they had for my car and they installed it the next day. It makes a little whine (barely audible), sounds sorta cool, the car also seems a little more responsive after the new fuel pump was installed.

Adding 1 extra bottle of friction modifier will fix it too.

It is more responsive it's not just your imagination :D:D It's a bigger pump pushing about 150lites per hour as the original was doing something like 99 lph... It made a huge difference on mine especially the responsiveness on the 93 tune. It's a good fix in a way i'm glad mine was broke...lol...

I had my clutch pack replaced the 4th day after I bought the car...works like a charm...adding friction modifier does help, but if there's a free longterm fix why not do it.. besides there better parts.

My 2007 Mustang GT is in today getting the clutchpacks replaced. I got it a couple of weeks ago and I started hearing noise from the rear end a few days ago. It got worse pretty quickly. I had a 2005 Mustang GT that never did have any problem with the differential.

Is there a TSB for the fuel pump issue? Anyone have the TSB number, or better yet the actual TSB, that they can send or post?

Thanks, Jeff

I had the same problem with my auto around 12k miles. The noise was loudest when I'd make a slow speed u-turn (I haven't mastered the high-speed u-turns). It sounded like my power steering pump was going-out but it came from the rear end. I took it in and the dealer replaced the differential. They also replaced my fuel pumps as I was having the same hestitation problems. Things are great now.

My 06 started to moan too, dealer told me if the noise is still there by my next oil change they will replace the clutchpacks......seems a lot of Stangs are having the same problem that Ford found back in the 05' cars

OK here is the TSB for the hesitation problem

TSB 06-9-9 (http://www.2005stang.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10281/tsb06-9-9hesonaccel.pdf)

The TSB for the rear end moan is 06-12-11. While I have yet to find the actual pdf here is a link to TSB 05-20-2 which says "rear axle moan for 05's and 06's". I don't know if the underlying fix or problem is the same but print it out, write 06-12-11 on it and take it to your dealer and have them look up 06-12-11.

Thanks for the TSBs WingerWV. They say 2005 - 2006, do they apply to 2007 as well? I see that jkilgor with a 2007 had the clutchpacks replaced. I really haven't noticed anything yet. I only have about 500 miles on my 2007.

Not a problem. Interestingly enough I found a thread in another forum on here where guys are getting the moan fixed by replacing the rear end fluid and not having the clutch packes replaced at all.

See here http://www.mustangforums.com/m_1929470/tm.htm

Oh great! I can hear the noise now. First time today I noticed it. I had the windows down, no radio and was doing a slow uturn in a shopping center. I was like, "what is that noise" So I went to a more empty part of the lot to do a few more and it was loud and clear. Almost sounded like a animal howling under its breath. You gotta go real slow in the unturn to hear it.

I still have not seen anyone post the TSB for this. I have seen the 05-20-2 one but the description did not seem to apply.
If someone has this specific TSB would you please post it. Much easier to have it in hand then try to talk to them about clutch packs when I dont even know what a clutch pak is.

Will call to set an appointment but would like to read the TSB first.

I have been hearing something coming from the back of my car, I thought I might not have tightened a bolt all the way installing my SLP's. I went back under there and checked everything out and it was fine. So im thinking this may be my problem too. When I take it into the shop should I take off my CAI and reflash to stock?

Your choice. Some say do it, others (me included) say do not. I asked this when I first joined a few months ago and decided not to when I go in for service. Have not had any problems from my dealer about it. I hear some dealers are jerks though.

RCT06GT

They cant blame a problem regarding my rear differential on my tune logically. So I see no reason to reflash.

I scheduled last Friday and had an appointment with the dealer today. They had my car from 9:00 to 5:30. I was unaware of the tsb [:@]. They told me there is a known problem with the clutch pack. They said the factory's torque setting on the pack was 800 lbs. The only approved fix is to loosen the torque on the clutch pack which would effectively disable the limited slip thus eliminating the noise. "All mustangs make that noise. When they designed the differential it was supposed to get an additive to stop the noise, but it didn't work". Basically what I was told was.......either deal with the noise
OR lose limited slip. Sounds really stupid to me that I just accepted what I was told. I mean, I bought a performance car with a limited slip differential that didn't make that noise for a long while. Mine started around 10,000 miles. It's really loud now. Of course they followed it all up with...."you have lots of warranty left if it tears up we'll just replace it. Is my dealership's service department just lazy?

before everyone runs to their dealships to replace the clutchpacks, it's been revealed that the clutchpacks replaced are going to be a lot thinner than the factory ones. Lots of people have only added a bottle of Motorcraft XL-3 Friction Modifier (easily picked up at the dealership parts for about $6) and have had great results with being rid of the whine.

However, i've not been successful in removing the plug so if anyone is able to remove it, let me know how you did it without bending your ratchet :(
