The reason i ask is because going fast isnt exactly easy, or cheap. Only way its easy is if you have a lot of money, only way its cheap is if you build it yourself.
What would you be willing to do to the car? The easier things to gain power is getting a header, and a full exhaust bent up, and a bunch of odds and ends, but you wont make much power from that alone. To make any real power, it takes an engine swap, or radical engine work.
well i think lately i have been looking to swap the engine any ways at first i was gonna swap for a 5.0 but gas is killer and i found all the sites devoted to 2.3T and i want to swap so how much do u think it will cost for the block and ecu. and when i do whatshould be the first things i should do to the 2.3? and how much did u come by that tbird for and ihh yea how good does that run?

I got my Tbird for 500 bucks, but in all reality, its a POS. I just like to think that i saved another one from the crusher, since these cars are getting harder and harder to come by. How much an engine and EEC would cost? It really depends on where you are an where you look. Theres a junkyard around here that you can pull engines for 150-200 bucks all day, and others that want 800 for an engine.
Right now, it runs like crap because i blew the turbo, but im working on getting another one for it. For how well it did run...the pic should be enough
well im pretty sue im now saving to get a 2.3T engine to swap........ but how good are these engines, wats the fatest that tbird has ran 1/4 mile and wat is a normal time for these enigines with some small mods? do u have any pics of wats under your hood tbird232ci?

It isn't exactly being money, on the 2.3l guy, it is the fact that you have to be in the right place at the right time. For example, I just recently made an aquiantence, that is a certified mechanic. He does it in his spare time, and is pretty decent. His most appealing project to me, was a 500+ horse N/A 283 Chevy small block.
He offered to do my 2.3l Turbo head, (Port & Polish) for 150 dollars, and he guarantee's his work. Like I said, you just have to be in the right place, at the right time.
For cheap performance, you can try to 'make' a CAI, you can also tinker with the timing, (If you are going to do a turbo engine*). You can also go into spending more money, by getting a port/polish job, and buying a cam/larger valves/springs. If you are going to do that, either try Racer Walsh, or Esslinger, ok? I haven't seen many cams for the 2.3 except from those parts dealers.
Also, flowing your injectors can help, as will adding a 'bigger'(higher flowing) fuel pump. Ovbiously, if you are making a CAI for the turbo, I would advise adding a K&N Filter. It may only free up an extra 5 or 10 horses, BUT, it flows better dirty, than any other filter out there.(This can be arguable, because there are quite a few 'performance' filters out on the market) The K&N Is a 1,000,000 mile warrenty, and, is reusable. It is a GOOD 50 dollar investment. There is also an EEC 'piggy back', called " tw'eec'er " that can be plugged into specific 2.3 L Turbo EEC's to add some power.
If you have DEEP pockets, you can get an esslinger head for what, roughly 900 unassembled, I think... I forgot. That would help quite a bit, with a turbo engine.
You can also goto a local muffler shop, and see if they will mandrel bend you a straight pipe, a step up bigger from stock. That would help, with a turbo engine as well, but, nothing 'special'.
Also, bob40.com(i think that is correct) offers a free-er flowing exhaust manifold, that will add some power, but, the cheapest one will run you around 250 bucks. It is a good investment though. The flange on it is a t3/t4 Garret turbo flange. That should be what you want to run anyways.
I am not personnaly buying a 2.3T engine, but I am taking my original 68k miles '89 2.3 N/A, and slapping a turbo head on it, ontop of a custom exhaust setup, with a garret t3 turbo, and hopefully an 86 EEC from an SVO. (With all of the proper wiring stuff). I am also going to get a custom exhaust setup done from a local muffler shop. I plan to be making around 230, 240 horses, with a stock 2.3l Turbo cam, with ported/polished valves, and the custom exhaust/intake setup(I am going to put a custom CAI on the turbo). I am also getting 35# flowed injectors, and a bigger fuel pump.
I have my head, and am about to get work done to it. I have gotten so busy with my Sr. year in highschool my project has been put on hold.
I will keep you guys posted, and if you need any more info, please let me know, ok?
