Most say it's pointless ... I just finished installing a K&N CAI on my car ... I'll road test in the morning ... I don't plan on doing a tune ..

I've heard that you wont get the full gain you should get, and you may run lean. (Too much air coming into the intake, and the engine isnt compensating for it)

Not true! There are many cais that offer great hp increases without a tune. The AFE intake, which can be found here, http://www.v6mustangstuff.com/05AirFuel.htm has been repeatedly dynoed to offer at least 12 hp and does not require a tune!

If you get a cai w/ a tune you will definitly notice much more of a gain but you will double your cost. It all depends on what you wanna spend, the AFE is a great intake. Many CAIs that require a tune will come with a tuner as you can see from the site above and it is very easy to do it yourself, just plug and play.

The AFE provides 12 hp for $250 while the tuner AND intake can provide 25 RWHP for $600...it all comes down to what you wanna spend.

if you get a cai i would reccomend getting a hand held tuner
tunes come installed one the tuner and you just select the tune you want and tell it to install

So does anybody have one of the "no tune" intakes and what results have you seen?

AFE has been repeatedly tested at 12hp? Ive seen one, that was afixer, thats it. Other people have installed them, but havent seen dynos.

I didnt do a dyno after my K&N install. But with just a canned tune (sct2) i ran a 14.91 in the quarter mile. added the K&N (no tune meant for it) and ran a 14.73. So for around $600 i was running 14.73 at 1243ft (about a 14.52 at sealevel).

Yes you will get gains out of intakes that dont require a tune, but you can probably get more with one with a tune.

Afixer was the test vehicle for AFE. His car is where they came up with the 12 RWHP number.
