If you really what to show someone how WELL they work, use a plastic sandwich bag. Place your hand in it and gently slide your fingers over the paint. Then do it on a place that has been barred...YOU Will Feel a Big difference.

One tip: Try not to claybar when it's super hot out.. makes it much more difficult.

Yes it is perfectly safe on clearcoats. I use them all the time. It's a must have!

I would claybar the car first to get all of the contaminants out of the paint. Next I would polish the car to clean the paint and bring the shine and reflection. Then top with a wax. You can get claybars online or at autozone, walmart, etc. My favorite wax is Natty's. ClearKote makes a great wax too.

I have 2 of them. They produce awesome results and can be used by a beginner. I sell quite a few of the Porter Cables.

How long does it take to do a car? How hard are things like side/hood scooops? Whats a "dual action thingy"?

From what I gathered, it will most likely take the better part of the day to wash, clay, wash again, polish and wax the car. I will be doing my detailing day next saturday and will post some pics of everything

Yes it will take a while to do everything right and do all the steps. In the end it will be worth it!

The buffer you are talking about won't work nearly as well as the porter cable. The only thing that would be good for is putting on a wax or sealant. You wouldn't get very good results with trying to remove swirls, scratches, oxidization, etc.

After I purchased my 94 I somehow got behind or into some white paint on the highway. There were tiny spots ALL over the car. This was back in 95 or so, I thought I was screwed. I took it to a detailer in town and he said No problem and he showed me what he was going to do to get the paint off.

Any guesses?

A fuggin' clay bar.

$200 bones later, my pony was completly spot free! Clay bars are the real deal and not some Billy Mays Oxy Clean BS that you see on TV.

I actually got yellow paint off of a ladys car about a month ago with a clay bar. She had it all over the side of the car. It came right off.

I used a clay bar for the first time today. WOW, what a difference. The paint was so smooth. After using the clay I applied two good coats of wax. The clay made is MUCH easier to apply and remove the wax.
