....here in Richmond, VA a local dealer is auctioning off their 1st Shelby; red/white strip unit I looked at today, and quite frankly, was disappointed. Almost completely stock GT mustang with exception of rear end and the hood. For a list price of $45K, I'd buy one but anything higher than that I'd pass.
About 12 fellows to show up and dealer said 7 were very serious.....guessing it will sell above $60K but I'm driving my EXTREME up there just to show what a real car looks like. I gave the salesman a ride today in mine and he was completely hooked on why I bought the Saleen over waiting on this auction car to arrive. Will reveal all when the auction has concluded......
Keep us posted. Curious to see what it sells for. The local ford dealer called me about a week ago cause my name was on the list. I tild him to pass me and go to another name. He was trying to tell me how bad the car is and its the greatest mustang ever. He asked me what I got instead and he was so quit. Than he asked....what's a Saleen?

I got to look at one in person yesterday in Lexington, and I too was pretty dissappointed. Is it worth 45k, probably - but not worth what they are getting The thing looks like a 4x4 in the rear with about 5-6 inches between the tire and fender. Has Shelby ever heard or Eibach
BTW - the truck driver backed it into a pole or something when unloading it so now it is in the body shop waiting on a new rear cap. Think that guy had is pay docked
60k seems to be the going price for these. I know of 3 in IN & KY that have sold for 60k.
I don't get it ^^ This car I saw WAS a real '07 Shelby GT500, and it was NOT lowered.
Ah let me clarify my obscure post...
It could be argued the GT500 is not a true Shelby car in that Carrol Shelby had nothing to do with the design of the car. It was designed by SVT and brought to Shelby for endorsement. The car is 100% built on the Ford production lines. There's a bit of a treasure hunt/trivia game on another forum. So far there have been 10 places found where the car has SVT badging. Nit picky probably... just a curious/fun semantics game to play.
Shelby Autos in Las Vegas, the company owned and operated by Shelby himself, took Mustang GTs from Ford to modify them for the Shelby GT-H. This could be viewed as the first "true" Shelby Mustang in that he and his company took a regular production Mustang off the line and modified it aftermarket.
Fast forward to a week ago... Shelby and Ford have jointly announced the "Shelby GT". This car is a production Ford Mustang GT, delivered off the line to Shelby in Vegas, where he adds aftermarket parts to lower the car, increase handling, and bolts on some power adders. They are also attaching the GT/CS side scoops, fascias, a billet grill, and a rivetted "look" hood scoop modeled after the original Cobra hood.
My original post was to split hairs between the GT500 and the Shelby GT. I personally regard the Shelby GT closer to a true Shelby than the GT500. Simply because I know the Shelby company put the parts on the car (even if they happen to just be the exact same aftermarket performance parts Ford sells). At least the hood is unique!

It appears that Shelby is trying to catch up to what Saleen and Roush have been doing. The key difference is that so far Shelby has no original performance parts. Amy, the president of Shelby, has stated there will be a Shelby supercharger to go along with the new line of modified cars but it will probably be a rebadged whipple.
She has also said there will be a GT-350 as well as a ~600 HP car. All these parts will be available in the aftermarket. So you could take your Shelby GT and add a Shelby supercharger and maintain the registry of your car as a Shelby.
Business model sound familiar to anyone?

That's a pretty good statement about Shelby trying to be like roush and saleen. The problem is that Saleen and roush have built a pretty good name for themselves. All the old timers will have sentimental value towards the shelby but guys like us have grown up with the roush and Saleen. I'm not that old so growing up I w always thought Saleens to be rare cars. I didn't know about shelby until I really started learning about cars.

I agree. To me Saleen is this generation's Shelby. I thought it was fitting they were both put in the Mustang Hall of Fame on the same day.
