does a throw shifter make that much of a difference performance wise? i know it shortens shift time considerably, but i dont know if it does anything as far as performance goes.

well it's alot nicer as far as driving period, quicker shifts equal less rpm loss between shifts, wich should help your ET's a bit, and they are usually easier to shift than a stock shifter. an excellent mod worth the money, applications vary by model of course, but on my 98 GT the shifter is held in by 8 easy to remove bolts. just pop the boot off, undo the bolts, and it comes right off. new one goes on just as easy.

Want an easier way to get a short throw? Get an aftermarket knob held on with set screws.

Get your hacksaw, or if you're rich, a SawzAll or similar device. Also get some rags and a vacume.

Take off your knob, cut some inches off the shaft, use the vacume and rags to minimize/eliminate shavings. Put aftermarket knob on.

It's a short throw because using the lever laws, by holding it further down on the stick you don't have to push as far to get the same movement result.

Made my Saturn MUCH more fun to drive.

takes more work though, aftermarket short throws actually shorten the throw AND make it easier.

YES HAT S TRUE BUT THEY ALSO  KEEP FROM DAMAGING YOUR TRANNY DUE TO OVER SHIFTING.  THE AFTER MARKET SHIFTERS HAVE STOP ON THEM SO YOU DONT TEAR UP ANYTHING IN YOUR TRANNY

But if you do the shortening to the stock shifter, you don't have to worry about that.

20 seconds with a sawzall and 1 minute with a knob is too much? It does shorten the throw, and it firms up the pattern. You're a puss if you can't push the freakin stick when it's shortened.

The stock shifters do not have stops on them there for when you slam it into 2nd or 3rd you could over shift and damage the tranny.
