Default engine light

I taped off the stock air intake so all the air would come from the shaker and I revved the engine a little to show my friend how cool it sounds have the air comin from the shaker scoop. Now, the engine light came on, and stayed on the whole way home (20km's). The car still runs good, do I have to take this to the dealer or is there something I can do to reset it. I also removed the vapor thing in the stock intake hose.

Do you have a tuner? If you do, reflash your cars tune. That should do it.

If you don't have a tuner handy -

Remove the negative terminal of the battery and leave it off for a bit...

I have not had need to try this on the stang, but CEL usually do not have any significant battery backup...

sounds to me like its not getting enough air and throwing a code. . . u prolly should tape anything off like that . . . added too much restriction i would say . . .

and disconnecting the batter will reset the check engine light to normal, but if its still taped off, it will prolly throw it again.

+1 on the engine not getting enough air. You are probably hurting performance, the intake tract on the shaker systems are pretty restrictive. If you have an XCal 2 see what codes the car is throwing before clearing them.

I don't have any tuner or anything like that. I will take the negative terminal off and remove the tape I guess. How long do I have to leave the battery disconnected for?

Go to your nearest AutoZone, Checker etc and ask them. They should have a code reader and can help you out. I had the same problem when I installed my new CAI and it told me I was running lean. I had to change my tune.

I just disconnected the battery, I will leave it off for like an hour or so. I live out in the middle of no-where and it would take me an hour to get to a parts source or anything like that. I took the tape off the factory air box. I have no tune yet, the car is pretty much stock, so I think it came on because of the air restriction from that being taped off. I had it taped off for about 2 weeks now, and this is the first time it happened. I guess if there is something else wrong, the engine light will come back on, but I highly doubt there is. I will let you guys know.

Something else is wrong...

The Shaker kit (from CDC) actually comes WITH a piece of plastic to seal off the factory air box from outside air and is designed to operate that way.

If you are throwing a code, then you may have knocked a wire off, perhaps you don't have the MAF completely connected, from when you removed the TB Intake Tube to remove the round filter thing.
