One of the bad things about mustangs is they have really bad depreciation as opposed to hondas and toyotas. 01 and 02 v6s that sold for 18-19k are selling for 6-7k now while 01-02 civics that sold for 16k are selling for 10-12k. I love the Mustang regardless. I'm curious how the 05-06 4.0L v6 will stack up as far as depreciation and resaleability. Compared to the older v6s, this v6 is a good engine with decent horsepower. I'm hoping the depreciationi is slightly less on these s197 models.
Probably not much ... just look at eBay ... the market is already saturated with used 2005/2006 Mustangs ... and a V6 will probably be worth $5K less than a GT of the same year ... just like the original MSRP. I say after 5 years a V6 mustang will be worth $6,000 tops ...

IMO... I think a little more due to the uniqueness of the car. The old V6 wer a 9 year old modle with very little respect for its engineering and proformance. There is very little difference in our V6 and the GT (other that the motor and HP). Time will tell...
It'll probably depend on if or when they change the style in 2008 and how popular that is. I could see the body style holding some value depending on how many are actually out there in 4-5 yrs. There are a lot now, but if they drastically change the look again in the next couple years who knows!

Well, maybe not.... but I'd tend to think that the '05 through the next major style change will hold its value perhaps a tad better than its pre-'05 brethren due in large part to the excellent reviews and overall acceptance of the re-engineered design, structure and style changes, etc. By how much more it will hold that value, I can't guess, but perhaps as much as $3k more on average. Oh.. I guess I can guess cuz I just did.
am i really hearing this???/ peeps saying probably not much, when you compare the stang to any rice ride out there there is no comparison. the stang will hold its value no matter what especially as it gets older. you cannot convinve me that a 5 yr old stang is worht 5 g's most are priced higher than that going back 5 yrs, and at any rate you think a stang with 100 000 miles is worth less than say a toyota or honda with the same miles? no its not, just keep em nice treat em right and when the time comes you will not only get something decent for your ride, but you will have had a million miles worth of fun as well.
will they retain their value, IMO yes, particularly as they get older, once they hit 25 yrs its on.......
I hope more than five or six. If Ford goes ahead and changes the 4.0 SOHC to a 3.5L DOHC, maybe we'll get lucky and their worth will go up a bit. Anyways, I can't think of many cars that gain value in a short run, but in 20-30 years, whether it's worth a lot or not, it'll be a nice car to pull out of the garage and take for a weekend drive.

the worst part about this discussion is the fact that no one has mentioned the fact that WE ALL mod our cars. the reason i bring this up, is modded cars without professional documentation depreciate much worse than stock. the average buyer frowns upon the performance and apperance upgrades we add because it takes away some of the reliablity of the car. yes, there are going to be those gear heads that see the time and energy (along with the extra 50 horses) that come with the car, but those perspective buyers are few and far between. and not to mention that most of the major dealerships cant re-sell heavily modded cars because they wont pass their inspections. its sad i know...but we love our cars...and wouldnt get rid of them anyways right?....
Hell no we wouldnt get rid of them...If i did i'd just be for another Mustang lol...The mustangs i've experienced seem to last long for a daily driver with good care. I got 115,000 miles out of my 2000 before i traded for this car and let me tell you she road like a dream. Who cares what theyll be worth as long as we enjoy them thats what i say.

I like to think my 05 is a special car, but am not naive to the fact that on the used market it is just another convertible. The mods add nothing to the value of the car, UNLESS you are fortunate to locate a buyer that understands the benefits of performance mods. Selling or trading the car five or six years down the road will yield whatever the market at that time will bear. Factor in the future price of gas, who knows where that will be by then.
I got a nice trade-in for my wife's 35th anniversary, 99 convertible when we bought the 05. We had owned the car for about seven years and it only had 48,000 on it and was immaculate (they sold it the next day, never sat on the dealer's lot).
Good post, these are NOT collector cars; too many produced to be worth a bunch. Just enjoy it, the best MUSTANG I've ever owned/driven.

Why worry about it? In 4 or 5 years I'll still be having a blast driving my '05 and there'll be a lot more aftermarket parts available. I didn't buy it as an investment, I bought it because it tripped my trigger.
