Can't speak for drbob, but those are what I used. Just put in the back pair today. They sound better than stock, but I still think the H/U leaves some room for improvement.
I just installed Sony XS-V680HB speakers both in the doors and in the back. These are 2 way, 6x8 speakers with tweeters in the center. These are great speakers! I have the Shaker 500, which sounded good before-but I can't believe how much better it is with these Sonys. They're direct bolt-ins, just had to break off one tab on each front speaker. I got harness adapters from Crutchfield and soldered them to the speakers so I wouldn't have to cut any wires. I was a little nervous about the install, but it turned out to be a breeze. Some of the best money I've spent.

I got the Sonys from Electronics Express. They were $62 and change plus $14.40 shipping per pair. Best price I found. The 2 pair were like $154 something delivered. Fast service too.

Yup and 6x8 / 5x7 speaker will fit. I have Infinity in the rear and Rockford Fosgate in the front. Also, replaced the door subs with Rockford Fosgate 8's as well as some RF 10's in the rear.

which rockford did you use? and where did you get them?
I went w/ Polk Audios all the way around. They are very similiar to the Infinity's, but have a little more bass. They sound absolutely great. But remember, your not going to get great sound out of a pair of good speakers unless you get rid of the shaker and get a good after market head unit.

Amen to that........replace that Shaker head unit and you won't have to buy speakers.

I agree about replacing the speakers, I have the Alpine CDA-9857 headunit in place of the shaker500, mostly for the Ipod interface (works great). The HU really improved the sound dramatically, but I am going to replace the f/r speakers in the next couple of weeks to get the most from the new deck.

I replaced all four with the previous year models of theses. Do it, Do it, Do it. I chose these because of the low frequency response. I could see how the 6880's could be TOO high with 3 tweeters, these 3ways are just crisp enough.
You can get them cheaper than crutchfield if you dont mind not getting the adapters and wiring them yourself.

Well, now you guys have me considering this option. Just to clarify, you started with the stock Shaker 500 system? Did you leave the two front door subwoofers intact, or did you replace those as well? My inclination is to replace the four 6x8's like you did and leave the subs as-is. Are you pleased with the performance of that setup?
Are you still using the original Shaker 500 head unit? Like CDW63, I just installed an Alpine CDA-9857.
