I was coming back from the airport after dropping off a friend and I notice a new GTI coming up behind me. I knew the guy wanted to play around cause he was riding on my tail.
I was cruising at 70mph and he came up beside me. We didn't even bother to honk, he just waited until I downshifted into 4th to gun it. I pretty much knew what was coming since I used to have a 01 GTI. After he heard my exhaust from the downshift, the GTI gunned it and blew past me like I was standing still. Yep, I knew that little rocket would destroy me. I gave him a thumbs up and continued driving. If I raced him from a dig I could take him, but there is not chance on the highway.
Also, there was this OLD Pontiac GTO that came up beside me and there was a black guy in it shaking his head while singing and staring me down in the face. I gave a grin and a thumbs up, but he acted like he was pissed off and floored it or downshifted and the thing backfired right in my ear. My hearing feels weird on my left ear now...I hope it didn't cause any permanent damage. I swear it sounded like the barrel of a gun going off held right next to my ear. Bastard did it on purpose.[:@]
At 70, I downshift to third. It gives a much stronger pull than going to fourth, and it isn't too high in the RPM's that you have to shift too soon. Just my $0.02. But yeah, those little cars a quick, had a friend that had one modded, I was able to take him on the highway, but not by much. Even from a dig I was pretty impressed with it, even though I would take him easier that way.
i thought they were alright. I just drove one the other day. My buddy works at a VW dealership and he just lets us test drive whatever we want. I like the paddle shifting thought its awesome. I also did a nice brakestand with it.

WOW i am very surprised... i have ran 2 GTIs both had exhaust for sure... didnt bother to stop and talk and i beat both of them N/A... i beat one of them by about a car and the other by about 2 cars... both from 50-65mph rolls... i cant believe you only downshifted to 4th?! ha you definatley would have beat him from 3rd if he was stock... being that i have beaten 2...
you have an '02 GT...not stock, and you lost to the ugliest GTi VW has ever made ?? wtf. seriously, why didnt u go to 3rd ?? he should be NO competition for your car. theyre NOT that fast. unless he already had some stuff done to it....

thats what im sayin grn n gry... if it was the 2.0... they have 200 hp!!! 60hp less than you STOCK!!! and they weigh like 3300LBS.!!! come on!!! it is not possible to lose unless you dont know how to drive your car
i mean, them being ugly doesnt affect how fast they are, but, THEYRE ONLY 200HP. C'MON. that thing should be a walk in the park to beat. even from a roll.

I dont know which gears I have yet but I know they aren't stock. I haven't lifted it up and rotated the tires to see how many times the driveshaft rotates, but my RPMs at 70mph is around 2100. Whenever I downshift to 4th, it bounces up in the mid 4k range so wouldn't third make me redline? I always beat RSXs, Civics, Integras, and similar 4 cylinders in 4th at 70-75mph so I didnt think I needed to downshift to third. He had me by almost 2 car lengths when I shut down at 90.
I'm not sure if he had any work done, but the exterior of the car was totally stock. I could definitely hear an intake though and the BOV was a lot louder then the 01 GTI I used to own.
idk your trans gear ratio's, but thats about what im taching with 3.08's. id say 3.73's probably. should probably be 4.10's tho since you got a 4.6. they like to rev. im guessing your trans ratios are probably higher too, so, im going with 3.73's probably.

they do not come stock with BOVs they come with bypass valves, BOVs are aftermarket... that was not his intake you heard it was his turbo... well of course you beat those other cars in 4th, most of them barely make 150HP if they are lucky... you can hit 3rd at 70 mph... no doubt
