Meguias and Mothers are over the counter products. They are easy to use, some products work better than others. Other products like Pinnacle,Wolfgang,Zaino, Poorboy's, Optimum,Clearkote, etc are awesome products with professional results. I've detailed for years, Meguiars and MOthers are good but some of these other products are just excellent.
Do you have any defects or concerns? In what condition is the paint? What don't you like about the product you're currently using?
If you want an easy-to-use, reasonably-priced product you can likely buy locally, Mothers is a good choice... they really don't make a bad product, and they're pretty much idiot-proof if you follow the directions. And if you need help, their forum is quite responsive. Their new synthetics are really nice and even easier to use than their traditional products.
So if you want the best shine you can get for a resaonable price with reasonable effort in a reasonably short amount of time, there's one approach.
If you want the best shine or whatever you can get at any price no matter how much the effort and it takes you 8 hours to lather 6 different layers, there's another approach.
Pictures of your car would be helpful, but if it's as bad as it sounds, you might want to have a recommended professional clean it up for you so you can maintain it yourself.
Spiderwebbing's one thing, but if you've got rotary-induced swirls (from a detailer who didn't know what they're doing), you're going to need a Porter-Cable random-orbital/dual-action polisher, a good backing plate, some good Lake Country cutting pads, and some Power Polish for starters.
