Theres this 4 cylinder mustang for sale near my house, i went by to check it out and the car was in good condition, its only $1488 and it has only like 69,000 miles on it. Ive never owned a 4 banger mustang before, so umm, are there any performance parts for it, like exhaust systems, heads, intakes etc.
Well there a few add ons of course, Like adding a turbo charger / headers exhaust, cold air filter, Ive seen some go pretty quick, But nothing like a V8, But if it just day to day driver then why not, buy the car. I myself never own a 4 cyl stang, Drove a few turbo 4 cyl stangs, Not to bad.
The car will most likely be a daily driver, i got a black 5.0 i use for racing.
What are the brands for those parts though, like flowmaster, or MAC or something else, ive been looking for parts for a 4 clylinder stang and havent found one yet.
esslinger has nice mod parts , as well as racer walsh. My 91 Notch was a 4 banger before the swap and I also own a 86 ranger. These gentlemen are absolutley correct about the toughness of this engine. I drove my 2.3l stang back and forth to work as well as many many 2 hour drives to visit my gf in college. I never once had any problems ....... Except like like Obsol3te said , they are slower than frozen crap. My ranger has been beaten all to hell and back and has a lifter which has been knocking for 4 years now lol , it has went through 3 transmissions in its life but the little 2.3l refuses to die. There is a growing amount of mod parts for the 2.3l too . Esslinger now has an alum. head . All kinds of carb setups including sidedraft webers and mikuni snowmobile carbs I think lol. Those engines are used in alot of roundtrack race cars so there are alot of serious mod parts out there , the only thing is by the time you get good power out of a N/A 2.3l you have spent far more than it is worth. Either swap in a turbo 2.3l from a SVO , Merkur XR4ti , or T-bird turbo coupe , or buy a 5.0 or swap one in.
Final notes-2.3l in my mustang had 248,233 Miles on it.
2.3l in my 86 ranger currently has 219,734 miles on it and still kicking.
2.3l N/A engines are slow , but get good mileage and are bulletproof
My brothers 89 notch has a 2.3. We put dual exhaust on it and emptied the cat on it. We installed stock 5.0 mufflers and stainless ford tails on it and it looks good, sounds nice too! The exhaust helped alot IMO. The car even has the ten hole wheels and last week we put on a set of 5.0 badges, just setting, it looks like a 5.0.
