If you get this top thing figured out you should let us know. I think this was be an awesome mod!!! As long as it is weather tight. How did you go about cutting it out an making the edges look clean?

Is there a difference in the body of the coupe and the vert that makes the verts stiffer without using the top for support?

Question:
GT's are drag limited at like 160 something. i have a really hard time believing that a v6 could even got to 155, fastest i have heard of is 135. we dont have enough torque in 5th to push through the air to accelerate that much. my guess is like 145 tops. but then again im no expert.

to finish off that thought GT's are drag limited to 149 mph according to car and driver (look it up) so unless you miraculously have more hp and torque than a GT 155 aint happenin bud. and how do you even know? do you have a GPS? becaus last i checked you cant read 155 on your 120 speedo.

and BTW i think the chopped top is a really cool idea, i love the targas, but this one seems extremely poorly thought out. Sorry man. It looks cool, but its cut too far fromthe back window the lines dont look right, theres no covering above the windshield. It looks cool from a distance but closer it looks like some extraordinarily smart person decided to get a sawz-all and slice the top off like bam margera.

I test drove an 06 gt the other day and took it out on a long straight away. The car topped out at 140mph. It may have been able to pull another 5 mph, but I started to see oncoming traffic up a littl ways and shut it down. I guess I had it floored for about a mile and a half before I let off, the rpm's were around 4400+- , but this is was the gt, so I don't see a v6 going this fast. I have hear of some hitting between 135 and 140mph with a CAI and tune, but 155mph with a v6 that in N/A? Kinda farfetched.

well, like i said action jackson, the gearing is different. don't ask me how i know how they did it, i just know they did. and i didn't do those speeds over here. i did them in germany. if anyone thinks i'm stupid enough to goes those speeds on these crappy roads in the states.....

and getting to that speed doesn't happen just like that, it takes a couple minutes. and your still thinking of an amercian tuned v6. when i was over there i had an OPEL CALIBRA 2 liter 4 banger and that thing topped out at 150 mph. most people don't believe me but go here and ask this guy cause he had one too...http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=35084456

and yes my speedo cuts off a little bit past 120; i have a garmin c330 gps unit that i used to verify my speed. last i checked they only cost about 600 bucks. when i bought mine it was around 800.

a mile and a half? dude it takes like less than 30 seconds to do a mile at those speeds. you have to go for longer assuming your car has no governor. and 4400 rpms sounds about right w/ an american tuned gt. and i don't know how much horsepower i have. when you buy a german car they rate power in ps. this is my ps according to my german owners manual;322.41058720965964

other than that i do not know how much horsepower i have, never had it dyno'ed.

wow i had to see it to believe it ummmmmm
i guess you could fabricate some caps for the edges and get a piece of nicely stitched leather and some button snaps and cover the top

have you thought of the reduced structural integraty of the car though
i thought that the hard top was part of keepin the car from bowing in the middle and putting alot of stress on the frame rails
a vert can compensate for this lack of structure because it has some kind of cross square tubing in the fram to keep it from bowing in the middle

Hawkeye?
Hawkeye!?!
WTF is a Hawkeye!?!?!

It's marksman, sharpshooter or expert. 21 years old and three combat tours plus two Silver Stars and a Purple Heart? Somewhere in the neighborhood of 211 Silver Stars have been awarded since the beginning of hosilities in Iraq and Afghanistan, and you expect us to believe that you have two of those? You must have been mentioned in some publication, be it national or your hometown paper, produce it. And if that's just too much for you then we all know you're full of it. But since you were kind enough to include your name in your profile I went ahead and searched, there is no mention anywhere of Charles Tannehill receiveing one, much less two, Silver Stars. And if you want to agrue it, I again say prove it. But if you truly did receive two Silver Stars and the Purple Heart, then there would most certainly be a public record of it because one Silver Star given non-posthumously is a big deal, but two is the kind of thing the Army likes to slap all over the media.

I'm going to stop feeding this troll now. He's obviously full of it. Good luck with your top.

so smart and doesn't know what a hawkeye is. expert is 36-39. hawkeye is 40 out of 40. the reason it does not pull up is cause i am not enlisted anymore. records only show those who are enlisted. in order to see it you would have to have access to my ERB. in which case you don't, cause i don't even have access anymore. i just have my printed copy of it. and i know the vast majority of people and units that got them (the silver stars, in case in your not smart enough to catch on). and it was more than 211. now i would feed the jealousy that you have and your half a$$ wannabe proof by telling you my unit but then you'll just go on bugging my old NCO'S until you run out of options. and then i'll have to hear it from my old supervisors via e-mail how you went snooping around and bugging. if you were more polite maybe i would've entertained you but you went about this all wrong. i enlisted at 17 years old. i have been to germany, italy, france, amsterdam, iraq, kuwait, and qatar. your little search didn't pull that up either, did it? i'm done entertaining you. maybe if i feel like it i'll dig up my records and scan them in the future to let people who i am and what i've done. but doing it to shut you up or impress you? who the f#ck are you? like i told you already dude, grow up.

Hey Benny first thanks for your service! Since you can not prove the Silver stars I give you no credit, I think your full of beans... If you can prove me wrong I will whole heartedly appoligize.
OK...I mean you cut the friggin roof of your car and put $5 hinges on your trunk lid. Man that is a $25k at least and you treat it like you are now a member of PIMP MY RIDE! WTF! So now you purchased a car overseas which you have since totally destroyed and mad look like POOP. Then you claim that your V6 does 155 MPH... whatever!
They changed the trans and regeared the car after being special ordered? What else did they do special for you to have it be a super V6?
You don't sound like a troll becuase you actually believe what you talk about.... I think you a compulsive liar that needs to grow up and seeing as you've served in the Army, and fought a war for us, when the hell is the growing up part gonna happen?

NICE cut job, it actually looks as if you got skills...making this forum even sadder!

My un mod (with a torch or saw) Mustang!

Wikipedia says:
In both the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps the progressive sequence of skills is marksman-sharpshooter-expert.

i can prove it, i'm just to lazy to go to my place and dig up the paperwork. most of the time i stay over at my girl's and chill with her. the pics of my car are at my girls house off of my cell phone. i could've drove all the way home to get my oh so fancy 5.0 megapixel canon digital camera, but what for? to prove something to no one that will help me or even be serious about me asking for advice? what makes you guys think i'm going to take on the trouble to dig up this paperwork? to satisfy your curiousity? like i care. i just came on here looking for suggestions and help. one guy insults me by calling me a pogue because i decided to do something smart like use the military to get certified while i served my country. the thread is "chopped off top, please help", not "let's try to tear this guy apart because we think he's full of crap". if you wanna complain, go on darefugees.com. talk your military and political garbage there cause this is not the site for it. i was done w/ the military when i ETS'D.

wikipedia can kiss my a$$. hawkeye is a slang military term. as like when a gunnery sergeant in the marines is called a "gunny". you won't find it wikipedia, but (military) people do use it. if you wanna be a smart a$$ then yes, i did shoot "expert" to be technical.

and the 5 dollars hinges are the exact same thing autoloc sells. same aero grade aluminum, same construction, same period. all autoloc does is stamp their name on it and charge a hundred dollars. if can get the same thing for my car for a cheaper price then i will. its called shopping around and getting the best deal possible. i'm thinking of changing my trunk to a carbon fiber one, is that too euro rice burner for you? too bad. i do what i want with my car because thats what it is, my car. whatever mods you put on your car i encourage you to do to be different and show off your own taste. even if i think the mods are hideous, who cares? is it my car? no. its yours. i know everyone out there is not going to have my taste in customizing, but d@mn, i won't knock yours, no matter how ugly i think it is. i could rag on how i think your spoiler is garbage cause i don't particularly fancy it. or your rear quarter window panels and how they look like those horrible 1980's trans ams. but i don't. i see people put all kinds of ugly garbage on their cars but yet i say nothing.have some decency.

a compulsive liar am i? when you enlist at 17 you have to have parental permission. no problem there being that my mom was a drunk. then you have to have a highschool diploma or GED. i had a GED. i achieved this while in ethan allen, a corrections department for juveniles getting ready to be thrown in with the big boys. under wisconsin law, you cannot take a GED test until age 18, but if you are incarcerated you are allowed to take it at 17. i took the first portion of the test on my birthday, and then finished the rest of the portions every day thereafter until it was complete. got out a few months later, then joined the army. now when you join the army with a GED, option 28 has to available. if they are not accepting option 28 at the time, your screwed. but i happened to be lucky cause their recruiting numbers were low and they needed bodies, especially with this iraq crap starting up. i joined the army to make a positive change in my life. and my life has turned around.

no i wasn't drunk man, i worked in body shops before and i knew what i was doing. thats why the cut is so clean. i have chopped the tops off numerous cars in memphis but they use them mainly as show cars. and i had the proper equipment to do the job. but i had to leave my job and where i live to come here to yuma, az to help out some family members. so now i can't find a job in a bodyshop here so i just do a/c work. they wanted me to work as an ASE technican at the ford dealership but a/c pays more. in fact i have begun fabricating the rubber caps as you can see in the pics. thats why that one area is still white.

This thread is getting ridiculous. The original poster got plenty of good answers to his original questions. There is no need to discuss anything else here.
