Like most of us here,we have tried lots of products.
The 'best' is what YOU are happy with.

Enough philsophy....
I recently washed the car with Dawn dishsoap
then put on Turtle Wax Ice,then Mother's Carnuba
on top.I am very happy with the shine and depth.

my 2 cents worth,anyway

You wasted your time with the Mothers.

Most Carnuba's cannot build layers.

You can indeed layer the Mothers pure carnauba (over most waxes, and evidently over Ice) -- it's just that after two layers, you've got marginal returns.

So long as jts is happy with the results, that's all that counts.

Thanks, Jim D. The layering worked very well.
It was done at the recommendation of a detailer,so I trust his opinion.

Good lord! Look at all the trouble I caused. Sorry i lost track of this post. My car is an 06 GT vista blue so the paint is new. I'm looking for the best way to protect it before lovebug season hits here in Gainesville. I'm not to concerned about the best shine.

I think a sealant would be the most durable.

For the best shine you are looking for a wax with carnuba. It will give it that deeper wet looking shine.

There are good otc waxes at autozone, walmart, etc. There are boutique brands on the internet like Clearkote,Poorboys,Optimum,Wolfgang,Pinnacle, etc. Just depends on how much money you want to spend and what you are looking for. Really just personal opinion.

well how much money do they run for?
i want a nice shine but i dont want to do it for $125
maybe $40 is the most im willing to spend but thats pushing it.
I can barely afford my insurance and gas and $40 fills the tank.

Juzstang do you recommend polishing a brand new car? I thought you only want to polish when there are scratches....if no scratches than go to waxing.

You can polish a new car. I have this stuff called Pro Polish. It is a chemical polish and has no abbrasives. You can use it on a new car. It will clean the paint and bring out some more shine and reflection getting the paint ready for wax. I have polished many new cars. Some I've had to use an abbrasive polish like the SSR line. Usually on a new car the most you would have to go would be an SSR1 which is light swirl/scratch remover.

When I got my car brand new. The first thing I did was claybar it. Then I used the Pro Polish followed by a wax.

S281 E- also remember, most of your shine, depth, and reflection is achieved before the wax stage. Waxing just protects your results and it also adds more shine and reflection. If you have any detailing questions check out www.autopia.com. There is a lot of useful info on that site.

are some polishes/waxes better for a red paint than others? a bright red 93 gt original paint for instance.

There are some waxes that have an extra ingredient for dark colored cars. The Natty;s blue is looks great with red and black and dark colored cars.

Personally, I like and recommend a product called Rejex, found at corrosionx.com. It gives great gloss and protection from tar, bird droppings, bugs, you name it. Best shine I've found.

I had used over the counter products for years. I decided to follow Juztangs advice. I bought a Porter Cable and his Poorboys line of products. I clayed it, polished it, sealed it 3 times and waxed it twice. The shine is stupid. When I am driving it the difference over stock on the hood from the drivers seat is crazy. Little stuff that used to stick to the car, does not stick now. A microfiber wipes it off really easily. He is sending me a finshing spray to put on as well. I could not be happier with the results. This is not a paid endorsement, lol!

Bye the way the the Poorboys Natural Look spray works great on the interior. Perfect level of shine for me and it smells good too.

I prefer Adam's Polishs for my dark cars. Last long time.

And for clay, how the paint FEELS to the touch tells you when it need to be done. Clay helps keep swirls to a minimum. Paint should feel baby butt smooth.

All about personal preferance, dark cars are WAY more picky then light cars..........

My 2 cents after searching for 20+ years.
