Default Vinyl Residue won't come off!!!

Okay, so i bought a white '94 and it had two black vinyl hood stripes. I removed the stripes easily enough but in areas it left behind the adhesive that held it to the hood. I tried using a heat source and a rag to rub it off, but all that got me was hot, sweaty and a sore arm. I am considering using some kind of chemical agent that would remove the adhesive, but I'm worried that it would strip my paint too! Any and all suggestions as to how to remove the junk would be appreciated.

Two things to try. One is Goo-Gone not Goof-off or mineral spirits. You will have to wax afterwards.

Goo Gone would be my first try as well. But you're going to have to be PATIENT Assuming that works, I would use a good Polish/Paint Cleaner first, then seal, then wax when your done. Assuming the rest of the cars paint is in good shape, you MAY or may not have to polish, seal then wax the whole car.

Carb cleaner works. I've been using it for years now to remove residues on cars. A body shop guy recommended it to me a long time ago.

thanx for the suggestions that Goo stuff sounds like it should work, but I don't think a rag and turtlewax would work, i think vinyl adhesive is a little more heavy duty than sticker stuff but thats just IMO.

I hope you can get it off...if not, try the carb cleaner like Rash said. [sm=smiley20.gif] When I bought mine, the guy had that silver stuff on the doors and trunk...(the stuff they used for the chrome hips look). You can see it in my pics. I just sprayed the cleaner on the adhesive and used my finger to rub it in...didn't have to use pressure, then wiped off with a rag. It took it right off.
