Hey, I just registerred here. So a couple weeks ago I rolled my car, a 1989 Grand Marquis, it kinda sucked but I was planning to sell it anyways. My parents said they'd loan me some money so I could get a car afterwards. I decided I wanted a Mustang and based on the amount of money I have and the money that they are going to loan me plus the money I'm getting from the write off of my car, I figure I can get around a 1993 - 1996 Mustang. Basically what I am wondering, is would I be better off getting a 5.0 liter 1993-1995 Mustang, or a 4.6 liter 1996 Mustang? I've heard you are not supposed to buy the first year of a new engine so that is kind of putting me off on the 4.6 liter.... Were there any durability issues present in the early model 4.6 liters or anything like that? Thanks!

From the people I know with 98 4.6's say they don't have any problems with them. The only problem I would have with them would be the heads. But if you swap the 98 stock heads to a PI head with modifications to the intake you would gain about 60hp and higher compression ratio. I prefer the 4.6. Mods for the 4.6 are more expensive than the 5.0 right now.

its all an opinion. but mine, id rather have my 5.0. i drive a '92 GT. mods are cheaper, usually easier to bolt-on(so ive heard) and they weigh less than 4.6's. and also, "no replacement for displacement". yes, i know its played out, but, its the truth. even thought hey do have stroker kits now to make the 4.6 into a 5.1, id still rather have my pushrod engine. tried and true combination. mod motors arent bad...people are makin CRAZY hp w/ a turbo setup. so, i mean, its all in what you want and how much money you can spend. thats whats really going to decide what you get. so, welcome to the forums and good luck on finding a car.

im a little biased, maybe its because i own one, but i would prefer the 5.0L. i also love the 87-93 fox body style. but it is all your personal preference and what you can find and afford! sorry to hear about the old car, but good luck with the future stang!

Push rod or not, 5.0 can out run any 4.6 (so I hear). Plus for the years you are looking at go for 5.0 same hp more tq in the 302.

I'd also go 5.0 too!! not just cause i have one but i love the look of the foxes...when they got drag rims, lowered, cowl hood, saleen wing, nice exhaust...looks and sounds MEEAN!!! Plus i have also heard that the fox type stangs are the easiest to work on and also have the most mods to choose from...
