Default 4.10 Gears

I'm having trouble deciding on what gear I should get because that's my next mod. I want to put a new gear ratio and a t-lok in my car but I don't know which to get... a 3.73 or a 4.10? I was told that the 3.73 only knocks your rpm's up like 300 RPM's. What about the 4.10's? I'm open for opinions but I don't want to totally burn gas.

I'd go with 3.73's as It's about 500pm higher than 3.55's and 4.10's are higher still, I know that in My last Mustang I had to get a small gear to correct the speedometer and one for 4.10's wasn't available.

There is no single number it "knocks" your RPM's up by.... it's a ratio..... if you current gear is a 3.3 and you go to a 3.7, then the RPM's, at all times go up by a ratio of 3.7/3.3 or a factor of 1.12.

So, if before, when going 60 MPH in overdrive you were turning 2300 RPM, now you will turn 1.12 * 2300 or 2576. But, at higher RPM's, the cost is higher. With your old gears, if turning 5000 RPM, with the new gear, you turn 1.12 * 5000 or 5600 RPM..... 600 more.

Somebody said on here once that if you want to simulate what it's like to have 4.10's at highway speed, turn off overdrive and see how much your RPM's go up. This is what it would be like in overdrive WITH a 4.10 gear.

Right now I'd be lucky to go from 1st to 3rd gears as the car I have now has no 4th gear or overdrive.

That is a perfect description of the RPM increase. I have really begun to feel the difference in acceleration since I've gotten used to the new ratio.

Nice pooch, I have two of those little ***** myself.

Do you have the 4.10's ??? You have not been bothered by the higher RPM's at highway speed? Where is it you feel the difference in acceleration? Is it all low end, or all across the RPM band.

Good grief.. you have TWO dachshunds? Bless you.....

My dog Greta just got included in the 2007 Dog Fancy calendar. So now she is a pin-up girl.
