Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for many months and today just brought home my "new" 2005 S281 to Texas from Georgia. I have two basic questions:

1. She now has 3k miles on her. She did get her initial oil change at 500 miles. What type of oil should I use going forward? Manual says synthetic but seller said he was told to use a 50/50 synthetic blend.

2. I would like to use a wax on her that will be safe and not harm the clearcoat. Suggestions/recommendations?

thanks! Looking forward to involvement in this community! Amy

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic in mine.

As far as wax goes. I only use Poorboy's World Natty's blue. I maybe a little biased because I'm a Poorboy's distributor, but their stuff is awesome. The wax can be put on in the direct sunlight even.

Another option is a sealant. Waxes last 6-8 weeks and a sealant can last from 3-6 months. I usually put a couple layers of sealant on and then top it with a wax. The shine, paint depth, and reflection is awesome.

Welcome to the forums!

Best bet is to go by what the Saleen Manual says, which for your car is probably synthetic 5w-30.

I have no idea on the best wax to use but I use "best of show" wax from Griot's Garage. Just about everything from them rocks.

Full Synthetic 5W30. I've seen a Saleen rep recommend Mobil 1 or Royal Purple. I'm using Mobil 1.

Who car argue with ExtremeSaleen's choice in waxes when his car looks this sharp?

edit: Not sure if people saw this gallery from last Saturday. I found it on another site I visit. Crystal Cove / Saleen Grand Opening There are two sub galleries to click on via the first two pictures too.

Ditto on all counts. I will probably switch to Royal Purple next change.

As for wax, all the above advice is good, and I'll throw in my own as well. I like a high quality carnauba wax in a natural base, like P21S or zymol. Some people dislike zymol because of the expense or time involved, but to me the results are well worth it. High quality carnauba provides a deep, warm shine and good protection.

Thanks. That's actually a brand new paint job so the wax doesn't get any credit there, but BEFORE that paint job it looked just as good. Trust me. :)

Could you tell me where you purchased the cone on your dashboard?

I found that in a little souvenir shop in San Francisco. They had all kinds of sayings but I though "Do Not Touch" was perfect for car shows.

Never heard of griots garage but I just bought a bunch of stuff from them on Sunday. What are the big differences between griot and maguirs? Do you but the wax on by hand or do you use there orbitor (Machine polisher)?

They have different types of wax for different applications. You'll get a catalog from them with your order that gives great explanations on each product and good tips as well. But I'm pretty sure you can use the best of show wax with a buffer.

Just my 2cents but I really enjoy waxing my car with the new meguiars NXT wax. It does a great job and you can use it on and around the black plastics. Oh it doens't rip you arm off like Rain Dance either.
