Default Help between differences in cobra.

Ok guys, I been looking through posts and haven't learned anything new yet. I'm set out to buy a '94 to '98 Cobra or Mustang GT. Keep in mind I don't have a lot of money, I wrecked my previous car and am trying to get something to at least get something descent and not a POS beater. With that in mind, i'm looking for a higher mileage car with maybee 65-90k on it. Now, I understand that the '96-'98 cobras have 4V, and a different intake manifold, some suspension upgrades, and the cosmetic apperances over the mustang GTs. But I am unsure of how exactly the '94-'95s differ. I know they have the upgraded intake manifold on them, but is that it? Could somebody give me HP/TQ ratings for '94'95 Cobras and GTs, and '96-'98 Cobras and GTs? Also, i'm planning on doing typical boltons to whatever car i'm getting, what would typically be the best bang for my buck, in terms of power/money ratio? I know obviously a '96 Cobra is probably the most powerful car out of all the ones I mentioned. But would a modified 5.0 respond pretty well to bolt ons and be just as good? I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks, Ted

Ted, the 94 and 95 cobras had 5.0l pushrod motors. the 96+ cobras were 4.6l 4v 4cam motors. they came with 305hp while the 5.0 had 240hp. the 4.6l will get better gas mileage, last longer, and respond better to mods.

I'm also considering any nice '94-'98 Convertable GT, in terms of the 5.0L to the 4.6L in the GTs which one is better? I've always heard that the 5.0s were always better and faster than the regular 4.6L, but maybee it was just the people i've talked to. Thanks for your help, btw.

the 94-98 gt's were slugs, with only 215hp. gt's werent improved untill 99 when they got a hp boost to 265hp. oh, and the 4.6 is a better engine. some people will argue it, but the facts are facts.

Man, I really would love to get a '99+ GT but I really don't have that kind of money right now. My ballpark is around the '94-'98 GTs. I have a few friends that had the 5.0s. One has a '93 Powerdyne Superchaged 5.0. And my other friend had a '95 5.0. With what mods my friend had on his '95 his ET was pretty impressive. I'm not sure what I should get anymore. I know the 99+'s are far more superior of course.

Get a 96-98 Cobra if you can afford the insurance, I pay $1600 w/no tickets or accidents. If you are talking about the 99+ GT being superior to the 96-98 cobra, your way wrong, if you meant the 94-95 5.0 disregard this statement.

The 1998 GT has 225hp http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/94-98/98/ , but still the 1999-2004 does have 260hp http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/time...4/99/index.htm . You can make a 5.0L out run the 4.6L easy.

the 94-95 may have been slow but the 96-98 was pretty quick. it did the 1/4 in 14 seconds flat.
