Try www.crutchfield.com they have a very good site with lots of information. check out the learning section for all you want to know about sound and video.
thats a really friggen sick setup you have there scrming . it s soooooooooooooo nice!!!
question can you turn it up all the way??
i can only seem to turn it up to 17 on the dial out of 50.. at 17 my speakers are full blast and if i go anymore ill blow them
22 is all I can stand!!! lol!
btw... friday i upgraded the rear speakers... Man was I surprised how cheap they were! CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!! Put in a pair of Kicker 6x8's... the amazing part was how much had to come out of the car to do the install!!! Basically have to gut the back! LOL!
Now we did pull the door panel to confirm what I thought.... the doors actually have a component setup... so they actually sound pretty darn good... so we decided to leave those alone... So now I'm very happy with the sound setup! LOL! At least for a couple of weeks! LOL!
kicker eh!.. my favorite brand.. i may go with kickers for my car next year... my last semester of college is coming up.. and once that is done.. all i get is a solid income :)

I replaced my Shaker 500 with a Pioneer Premier series head unit and it made a huge difference especially with the bass. The subwoofers were hardly putting out any bass at all with the Shaker as compared to the Pioneer. I love my Pioneer. I changed out all four speakers with Pioneer speakers but left the subs in and it sounds even better. I do need to put in an amp to drive the Pioneer speakers though. The subs over power the other speakers so much that I have to turn the subs way down. Once I get my noisy gears replaced I'm going to get the amp and be able to really crank it up!
For anyone replacing their head unit I very highly recommend the Pioneer, especially the Premier series, above the Alpine. I bought an Alpine for my Ranger with the Pioneer speakers that are now in my Mustang and was very disappointed with it. Even without the subwoofer turned on in the Mustang it still sounds significantly better that the Alpine I have in my Ranger. Back when I had a Saturn I installed an Alpine and was very impressed with it but it seems the quality of the Alpine car stereo's has gone down since then. Just my own opinion.

I don't have a shaker 1000. I have a shaker 500 which I believe is just the 6 CD changer. No amps, subwoofers, extra speakers or anything. So I'm thinking about removing it and adding in a better system and some better speakers as well. I'm not looking to spend a fortune though - I'll probably buy my deck used off ebay. Can anyone tell me a good bang for the buck?

I'm happy with the Shaker 500 as-is. WTF am I missing, when I already have 500 watts? It's the loudest stereo I've ever had. I guess they can always be made louder.

For sound quality more than anything. My friend has a cadillac escalade with an alpine deck and a really pimped up stereo but it isnt how loud it can go that I like, it's how crystal clear it sounds.
