1970 Mach 1 Question

Hi all,

I am new to mustangs and I have a question regarding a 1970 Mach 1 that a friend of mine has offered to sell me. I will try to describe it as best I can and any information and whether its worth the 17k he's asking. Thanks in advance

Its an H code 1970 Mach 1 351c
It comes with the original 2v engine but it has a freshly built 1970 stamped 351c 4v (forged pistons, ford racing cam, bored .30, etc)
The rest of the car is original
FMX transmission
Factory Air
Factory candyapple red paint is new

The car is about 95% restored. The owner lost interest and some of the interior needs finished. He has almost all the pieces they just need put on.

I figure the car needs about 3k to be done completly. Is the car worth 17k and 20k when its done since the original block is not in the car but he does have it? If you need any additional info let me know.

If you are serious about the car, spend some time looking to see what this car is going for in the market. Then for about $350.00 you can get the car inspected by a professional, who can give you an apprasial as well as let you know what you are in for. This keeps things from getting ugly between friends.
This is a car, I am getting more and more interested in as I find out more about them. Hope it turns out to be a good deal for you.

The car is very solid...I watched it be restored from the ground up. everything was replaced or redone. No bondo in the car at all. I used to work for the mechanic that did the engine. He told me no corners were cut but he was unsure of the market value since the correct block is not in the car.

I know some people that would take off 10 to 15% b/c it is not orginial

Assuming body straight, floors, trunk, rails, cowl solid. High end paint job 17k is a good price for a Mach. I'll have more than that in my 70 fastback when done.

Yes the car is very straight...Floors, trunk, and rails are all new. I was fortunate enough to see this car in bare metal and it was or was made solid during the restoration.

Is it worth the 17 with the correct engine not in the car?

There is no way any of us can make that decision for you. As suggested, get a fair market value for that car in the condition it is in, then decide to jump or not. I would say 17 grand is a bit high, especially if it stilll needs a paint job, etc. But, these cars go for different prices in different parts of the country. You need to set a budget and stick to it. If your budget is 20K for a finished car, then by spending 17 for the initial purchase doesn't leave you much for a paint job, etc.

I agree with the appraisal approach. He says the paint is new. Again if you read his posts carefully the car should be a good buy at 17K if it is what he says it is. That's really the question here, is the car as good as he says it is. New paint, fresh motor, solid metal, recent ground up resto etc. All that work cost some big dough. You also have to look at the high value of a 69 H-code Mach that's all original, can it be much more than 25K unless it's an unrestored original in excellent condition?
