Backlash 07-31-2006, 01:00 AM dotn get them....they're rice on a v6 especially if its w/o some kind of power adder.....you get over 300 rwhp get'em
Twister 07-31-2006, 01:00 AM those are hood pins, they are meant for race cars that do not have a hood latch
TheWatcher 07-31-2006, 01:03 AM wouldn't put them on a 6 probably not even a stock 8!
petepete 07-31-2006, 01:05 AM if you get a carbon fiber hood you should add them my buddy had a cf hood that uses stock latches but the cf breaks easy so it flew off and smashed the hood
Unbound 07-31-2006, 02:02 AM The main function of hood pins are to hold the hood from flying up in case the latch breaks loose. They are usually found on older cars and added today mainly for looks... but they have nothing to do with rice cars if they add them or not.
This is the Shelby GT-H straight from Ford

2005v6stang 07-31-2006, 02:21 AM they look so cool though[:@]
Unbound 07-31-2006, 04:29 AM You like 'em, get 'em. It's your car. I like them myself.
Backlash 07-31-2006, 10:27 AM twister isnt ur sig a little big?
ricklmesa@cox.net 07-31-2006, 10:41 AM Yea I don't see them as rice at all. I see it as an old school look. Really no point in my opinion except to draw you away from amaking your car go faster by spending money in places that aren't needed!LOL Just make them go fast, no make them look fast lol
McChicken 07-31-2006, 11:06 AM Has anyone ever taken their car to 100 mph and the hood starts wobbling around? That kind of freaks me out a bit, like it's going to swing up and land on my windshield, leaving me blind at 100mph. Maybe if I was doing lots of 1/4 mile runs and that kept happening, I would get them because stuff like that gets inside my head and bothers me, LoL. I probably wouldn't ever get the non-functional ones. Lots of people on the forum have done it though, your choice. Just about anything can be called "rice" anymore.
lukoi66 07-31-2006, 12:13 PM there a few models of hood that specify you need them once you exceed a certain speed, like the Steeda "cowl" hoods, specify the addition of hood pins for driving over 80mph. I mean, if you EVER see a highway, there's a good chance you'll be over 80 on occasion right?
Other than that, they're a cool aesthetic thing, just gotta decide if you feel justified in sporting em; your car right?
defiant00 07-31-2006, 12:22 PM Many companies recommend hood pins for fiberglass hoods, so that makes them functional, not to mention really cool looking. When I get my fiberglass hood, I'm definitely getting pins. It adds an old school look, like others have said. In my opinion, if you have a stock hood and put pins in it, it's dumb, and the nonfunctional hood pin appearance kits available are utterly stupid. Rice? I'm not sure, but the appearance kits are definitely close and in the category of "Why the hell would you waste your money?"
CainMotorsports2102 07-31-2006, 01:01 PM if they are functional..then i say whatever floats your boat. but the stick on ones, are def rice
boss 244 07-31-2006, 01:34 PM The real ones come out of the hood at a funny angle depending on where you mount them. I have stick on ones that are there just for that old school look. fang performance used the twist loc kind from the 71-73 mustang on their, but had to put them way up the hood so they would go through straight. I like the twist loc kind, but I don't have those on my 73 mach.
localgod11 07-31-2006, 01:48 PM I would be worried about the metal retaining cable rubbing the paint off my hood at speed
boss 244 07-31-2006, 01:53 PM the cable is clear plastic coated, so no scratches, The scratches come from not being really careful when pulling them out!!
SPARTAN VI 07-31-2006, 04:07 PM How is that rice? I can see my hood getting shakey when at high speeds. Hood pins may be in my not-so distant future.
boss 244 07-31-2006, 05:33 PM mine actually poped up at the track, the saftey latch caught it though, probally cost me a tenth when I lifted then nailed it again
