depends if u do it, a ****ty place does it, or a nice shop does it, a basic easy paintjob could b from less than 500 (yourself or maaco) to a couple thousand bucks
well , basically i found a cheap car, that might be purple... like...gay purple.... its a great price, im not sure of what the actual color is till i see it, i was just told, its a dark metallic purple... and i want to get that painted into a black or red. Or white.
actually i know quite a few custom painters and people come in wanting something decent not show quality they say go to maaco and its better than factory but not as good a an 8k-10k PJ
I had a maaco job on my camaro, i changed it from red to black, and it looked great....after a couple of months and a real good wax job, i was taking it to local car shows. nothing spectacular, but the car looked clean!!

Please reconsider your choice of either white or black because they show a lot of dirt and imperfections. We have cars in both colors. Never again. If you do, you will be spending a lot of time washing it every couple of days. Black water spots badly, even from rain, and white just shows everything.
If you are going to keep the car for a very long time, then put the money into it for a really good job. If not, just repaint it in the original color because when you go to sell it, potential buyers will wonder why you picked another color. I was looking at used cars 7 months ago. I found a beautiful blue one, but the paint was chipping in so many places that you can see it was originally a white car. More questions came up in my mind. I figured it was in an accident and got a really cheap paint job and it probably would get worse. I passed on it because to me it wasn't worth an additional $2-3K to fix it down the road.

You did not mention what is the sports car.... I got a great deal on a 72 911T that had kissed the wall on exit from the pit. I used IMRON paint (@$200) one stage Air compressor (@$200) Paint Gun (@$25) Primer and thinner (@$100) A lot of sanding and surface filler, Painted under a tent as IMRON will Kill your Lungs . Paint job came out as good as pro after 6 years. Depends on how much work you want to put into it. Otherwise MACCO or Earl with you doing the prep work would do. the car is a 3000gt, from 1996. The guy told me the color is "amaphist" or something, im havign trouble finding a color chart for it on the net, can anyone gimme a hand with finding what color amaphist is? Im not sure if thats how its spelt, im just assuming.
There should be a metal tag in the engine area that has the numbers of the orriginal paint code. A trip to the nearest auto paint dealer will have the color charts. I take it you no longer like this color?
