..... about the B&M Automatic Transmission Shifter. I know you've been up on the bradbarnett site making sure that the V6ers are represented. What's the latest skinney on the development and/or market release? I know a lot of the manual tranny guys are installing short shifters and I'm a bit envious of their choices. I lost the thread. And maybe you can give the Auto folks here a quick lesson on what this ratchet shifter is all about. Thanks for all your help to us on this forum and all the others you visit.

Friday, they are doing a final test install on a rental. If all goes well they will install the first one in a car next week. Should be sweet.

The shifter will allow for auto guys to run through the gears by just bumping the stick up or down. It's similar to triptronic transmissions in bmw's.

Also, It will feature a t handle or ball option. The stick is threaded so you can put on any ball you want. (another plus)

Here's the Spy Pic.

Thank you! Oh, man, I can't wait. Are they still planning to put a line lock button feature on the ball and O/D button on the bevel? Sorry if I'm asking foolish questions.

I'll take 3!!

What's the price tag? Probably another pretty penny to get it professionally installed.

They are staying with the original plan of the o/d button on the bevel. doesn't seem like it would be a problem...

Wouldn't you need to do some more work internally inside the tranny for it to hold up long term? That will ware the sh!t out it won't it?

I wouldn't think it would be any worse than anyone who "manually" shifts the gears now.

theres a delay in the shifter now.

"Not bad news but we have hit a roadblock sort of..Fortunately we believe we can solve the problem. we installed the shifter in the first rental and took it out for a test..Ran great!..Shifted great and very quick up and downshifts!..We were pleased...Ok, so then we re-install it on another rental and uh oh....Apparently FORD has decided to make a change in the electronics which control the shift solenoids to take the vehicle in and out of park/reverse etc. It is a running change in the ford production and the two rentals had slightly different solenoid units , but the same wiring. So, the unit did not work in the other rental..So, we are trying to make contact with the company who supplies Ford with these electronics so we can order these parts, include them with the shifter and have a unit that works on all the vehicles. Doesn't seem like a monumental task, but there is a bit of a delay now ..Unforrtunately this was not something we could control , but we should be able to fix once we can get these parts. Had this not come up , I could have gotten a part # and likely a price for everyone, but we are back at the drawing board temporarily until we hear from these people....More to come...Chris"

At least on the one car it worked great!

Also, do you guys want this as a sticky?

Yes it does look quite sweet, and I think I would love to get one if I found out more about them. But, I am also wondering how the tranny will hold up. I dont manually shift mine for 2 reasons. One, I have always heard that it is bad for a transmition and back when I had my 94 I did it like the first couple of weeks I had it and before the month was up I had to replace the transmision. Secondly, with the stock rev limiters on our cars (I dont know how it will be after I get my chip) my car automatically shifts at like 6250 rpms when I floor it, and if i put it in gear manually it just limits the engine. It wont hold in gear past 6250 by manually keeping it there. I tried it a couple of times just to see if it would help anything and it didnt, so I just leave it in D now. If I am gonna race somebody though I turn off the O/D (I dont know why but for some reason I seem to accelerate a little faster with it off and I cant figure out why) and the traction control. It seems to do better that way because there is more lag when I shift manually and like I said it doesnt seem to help my shifts.

so with this shifter there is no choice for just automatic shifting?

Yes you can let it shift automatically, or you can shift the first 3 gears manually and let the car automatically shift 4 and 5 buy itself.
