Default 351 windsor

i understand that the 351 can get more hp, but why are people so big into it? My dad jsut laughs at me and says im stupid if i puit a 351 W in my car. him and all his buddies that used to hot rod cars from the 70s say that the 351W is the worst motor made by ford with the exception of the 360. Now he definately approves of the 351 Cleveland, what is the difference?

i'm not sure what the difference is, i've always heard better things about windsors though. but i'm definitely no expert on the subject.

that it is, but i guess the 351 W is jsut total crap compared to the cleveland, as that was the best choice for a 351 in the MAch 1s. My dad and his buddies said you wouldnt catch anyone using the windsor back in the say, but maybe that was then, and maybe now the 351W blocks are better.

The 351 Cleveland had a problem with breaking the crankshaft so they made the 351M means modified after that they built the W meaning windsor

i know the 351c is a big block and other then that i don't know why they don't like the 351w. if they really give you probs tell them that you want to run a ECOTEC Engine and that should keep them quite

70's mentality.......not much you can do about it. thats why my dad has no say in what i build.

the windsor has many more parts being made for it. its also nice because its a small block that can be made into a 427ci the windsor is practically a bolt in part into a fox body. and lastly, the windsor is one of the best motors ford ever made

you're dad is stuck in the past...........

first... 351W with stock heads is a waste of displacement.
2nd.... no one runs stock heads on these anymore.

advantages of 351W over 302.

uses same parts as 302 so lots available
is MUCH stronger "stock" block than the 302
can be built MUCH cheaper than a stroked 347 for same displacement.

biggest limiting factor for 302 is block hp limit of about 500hp
the 351W will handle 700 and doesnt have the block flex problems max'd out 302's have.

351W is a 302 block just with taller deck height. ( they just extended how the part of the block that goes to where you bolt the heads on )
so mounts in same place, can use same cams and accessories and transmissions.

The clevelands were a totally differnent block and head design all together.
good engines but have really few aftermarket parts available.

Lucky13 summed it up pretty well.

I bet your dad thinks EFI is too complicated as well.
And that ALL emissions equipment hurts power.

The windsor is a great motor for all the reasons that have been mentioned here, but mostly for its aftermarket support and increased power capability.

If he still gives you a hard time, remind him that no matter how bad he says the 351w is, it is still a major improvement over its little sister (the 302).
