Does the absence of the air filter give more air volume to the throttle body when dragracing? I've seen quite a few cars running on the strip with an open TB/Carb. Other than sucking in some road crap, does this offer more HP?

My air inlet tube on my Jeep is situated at the front fender well and is about 5" diameter; was thinking of taking the K&N filter off to allow more of a direct flow into the supercharger. I was going to put a small screen in front of the tube just for safety reasons. Any thoughts? I'm just at 13.0 in the 1/4 and trying to get into the mid-12's. Just added an oversized BeCool radiator to get the temps down (was running the track at 215-220deg.!) so I know I'm losing some HP by the heat alone. Will try this Friday to see if radiator is a help but wanted to try the air filter delete if possible.

Depends on the vehicle. On our S197 Mustangs, it would throw our tunes out of whack!

an on a carb it might add 5 hp... which i dont think even would translate to 1/10 second... no reason to sandblast the top of your pistons.... ;)

If you dont run the aircleaner the mass air calibration will not be correct and it will run poorly on your E, I am not sure on the Jeep

Let me clarify.....this was ONLY for my Jeep GC. Not the EXTREME. Will not take off the aircleaner based on yours and others opinion on this subject. Thanks!
