ORIGINAL: DRWS10 What will the GT Take-Off Front Sway Bar really do for the 6?? I am very interested! Wondering what exactly will it do and it looks very easy to put on is that true?? On saleen.com its selling for $29.99 is that pretty decent price?? Thanks guys A couple of things you need to keep in mind before you consider a GT front sway bar without also installing a rear sway bar. Because of its rear-wheel drive and front-end weight bias, the cars naturally understeers. It tends to "plow" in turns and resist steering inputs. Installation of a rear sway bar is an easy way to add some stiffness to the rear suspension and reduce this understeer. It gives a more "precise" feel to the steering. It makes the car turn easier and feel more stable. It makes the front tires wear longer. Ford has put rear sway bars on Mustang's since at least 1979. Why did Ford leave the rear sway bar off the '98-'07 V6 Mustang (except Pony Package equipped)? An obvious reason is to save money. But it is generally accepted that Ford's decision was also based on assumptions about the driving skills of the typical V6 Mustang owner. Understeer is the accepted norm in the U.S. When the car doesn't seem to be going where the driver wants it to go, he just brakes and turns the steering wheel farther -- an intuitive design considered defensible in court. Adding a rear sway bar not only reduces understeer, it also makes the car more likely to oversteer. -- for the rear end to lose adhesion and swing out when cornering. That makes the car more fun to drive (it turns quicker), but also more dangerous because it could lead to a spin-out. To correct for oversteer, the driver must stay off the brakes, add power, and turn the steering wheel in the direction of the slide -- a design considered indefensible in court, and one that could expose Ford to liability. So bottom line is that if you install the stiffer GT front sway bar without adding a rear sway bar you would only be adding to the built in understeer, which I don't believe is your goal. And by the way, installation is only a matter of unbolting the old sway bar and installing the new one (the GT sway bar has its own brackets but you re-use the V6 mounting bolts).

thanks for the write up. i actually do have the rear sawy bar, but it was factory installed. what does the install look like for the front one though? will it require me to do a lot of stuff? i mean, is it worth it to take it to a shop for a few hundred bucks?

Would the sway bars not be advisable for bumpy roads (as I know first hand that the back end can skip)? I'm also guessing that this would make the car want to slide more in the rain?

I would have to recommend the rear before the front actually lol http://www.newtakeoff.com is actually Diversified's website if you don't want to use the e-bay route. (Great people to work with!) Just remember that if you order from them, you don't receive the bolts.
