The August issue of Road and Track had some nice things to say about The Roush Mustang. They did a few comparisons with the new Shelby Gt 500 .In the area of handling and acceleration ,in particular .Both vehicles will go zero to 60mph in 4.7 seconds. The quater mile trap speed is slightly better for the Shelby(13.1 at 112.2mph) and the Roush(13.3 at 107.8 mph). It made note of the weight distribution of both cars, saying the Roush is well balanced compared to the nose heavy ShelbyGT 500..."the aluminum block 4.6 liter V8 is much trimmer than the cast iron Triton 5.4 GT500".In the slalom the Roush's performance ..."is balanced all around...threading past the cones at 68.5mph(compared to 65.3)"..on the skid pad the Roush generated 0.94g versus the Shelby0.87g."
I only mention this article since I thought a few may be interested. Also I felt compelled to pass this on since I own a Stage 3 Roush
The Roush lists out at $46,945.00.(US).When I was shopping for a replacement for my 2004 Zo6(I paid $65,000.00 for the Vette with 2000 miles on it in 2004...brand new they listed for $81,000.00(CDN) I picked up a Mustang Gt converted to a Stage 3 Roush by the Dealer. It didn't have all the components but I paid $47,000.oo (CDN).Since then I put about $5,000.00 (CDN)into it and completed the package(suspension, brakes, wheels and tires,BFG drag radials, front bumper cover.)The car came with 18" ford Bullit style wheels and BFG G force tires. The blower was already installed (by the Dealer)along with the fake hood scoop, duckbill rear spoiler and side quarter window covers. To have one of these for what I paid in Canadian dollars seem okay to me.I didn't want the Roush rear bumper cover or the exhaust kit that goes with it.The Dealer had already put in Borla stingers and Eibach springs.I think the OEM stock rear bumper cover is nicer. My only regret is the fake hood scoop(I know it is supposed to add character)...
The points it brings out are exactly why I chose to purchase a supercharged Saleen over waiting for a GT500. Glad to see the "experts" chime in on these differences with some official comparisons.

Do you think you can out run the Shelby GT500? _____________________________
If by out run you mean a road course battle, I will take a Saleen SC everytime. Better balance, lower weight should put the SC ahead.
If by out run you mean a drag strip it will depend on the driver. Look at the difference between the Motor Trend run and the MM & FF run. The Saleen Sc beats motor Trend but not MM & FF. Put the 475 upgrade on and it would be closer with MM & FF.
I could not agree with Dotbomb more. This is why I bought my Saleen and did not wait for the Shelby.

Agreed.
The case by and large for the ROUSH, SALEEN, STEEDA and KB built GT based cars. STOCK for STOCK, they all have been good as or better in handling. In some cases by a large margin.
Yup. This was the first time I purchased a car based on test driving one and watching videos of the other one I was considering. It was pretty obvious that I wouldn't care for how the stock GT500 handled. So it is good to hear these observations validated by the reviews that are coming out regarding the GT500.
Don't get me wrong, for $45k the GT500 is a hell of a car. If I end up hitting a jackpot or two I may just have to own both a GT500 and a Saleen

Prior to buying my Saleen I had a tweaked '98 Porsche Carerra 2 "S," and have been lucky enough to have other great-handling cars. I was/am shocked with how well the Saleen handles. I love the HP but what sold me was the handling, which is the icing on the cake IMHO, and a huge improvement over the stock GT.
