I bought a couple of aluminum parts for my interior (2003 GT):

- Aluminum Bullitt-style pedals
- Aluminum radio knob
- Aluminum headlight knob
- Aluminum interior door handles
- EL-glo white-faced gauges

Ok.. so these came in the mail (except the gauges are on back-order).... The pedals look like total garbage, and there's no way I am putting these on my car. They have plastic backs to them... who the hell wants plastic in their pedals?!?!? So you know what not to buy, these are the pedals I got:

Ok, so the radio knob and the headlight knob look pretty good. Does anyone know how to install these? No instructions! *doh* I read something about the stock headlight knob having a release on the side of it that you pull out with a little flat-tip and then just yank the stock knob out. Although.. the thing I was reading also said that it can be a real bitch to get off of there. The replacement comes with a set-screw, so that makes sense.

As for the radio knob... do I just pull? lol.. I am a little hesitant.

The door handles came with instructions... have to take the door panels off, then dremel off the hinge pin holding the stock handles on. That sounds risky... thinking maybe I should take it to a shop for that one.

The guages would seem like a hard mod, but from what I've read it should be pretty easy... A couple of torx screws holding the cluster bezel in place, then some screws holding the cluster itself, and out pops the whole thing. The mod I got doesn't require me to remove the guage needles... just slips over them.

So.... the point of this post is to ask if anyone has done mods on these items, and if there are any pointers you could give. Things to watch out for.. horror stories... tell me how easy it is.. whatever.. any feedback appreciated!

Oh, and one last thing.. I would really like to replace my shifter knob with something that has a little aluminum in it like the Momo Combat shift knob (http://http://shop.store.yahoo.com/racinglab/momcomshifkn2.html target=). I really like the ergonomic designed knobs like this (i.e. I don't like ball shifters)... I just think that the stock shift knob is a bit plain, and I'm adding some accent pieces elsewhere, so why not the knob. Now, I haven't bought this knob because it's aluminum and black, and my interior is dark charcoal, so that would look a little funny. I guess I could throw a black shift boot on too, but that would look kinda weird too. Anyone have any suggestions, or know of a good shift knob that matches the dark charcoal interior better than a black one?

Phew, this is a long post.. thanks for reading. ;-)

Sorry to hear about the pedals. They do look good on their website though.I don't know aboutthe radio knob. I have a 96 and they didn't come with knobs. The headlight switch is a painin the @$$. You can use asmall flat head screwdriver to get it out. It does take time to get it out.You can also just break the plastic pieceand it will bereally easy to remove then.As for your white face gauges. Take a look at MustangWorld's How to guide. http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/whtf1.htm (http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/whtf1.htm target=) If you don't do it this way you'll screw it all up. They don't show how to install the EL-glo type but you'll need to know about the needles. It will also help you on your headlight knob removal. As for your shift knob. Your link doesn't work so I can't suggest anything.

Whoops.. here's the corrected link to the Momo Combat shift knob (http://shop.store.yahoo.com/racinglab/momcomshifkn2.html target=)

I called the supplier, and they said just pull on the radio knob and it'll come off. I tried a couple times and it wouldn't budge. It's hard to get a grip on, and I don't want to break it. Dilemma...

Thanks for the gauge info... The gauge kit I got is different from the BBK one. This one doesn't require you to remove the needles/old gauges... The new white-faced gauges slip over the needles and lay on top of the old gauges. But... since I got them from the same place as those pedals... I might wind up going with BBK's. :-/ We'll see how they look.

http://www.ltbmotorsport.com/shiftknob.html (http://www.ltbmotorsport.com/shiftknob.html target=) You can find a ton of shift knobs here. You can even find your combat one at a better price. I personally don't like any of them. I'll just stick with my fatty shift ball.<IMG src=smileys/smiley20.gif border="0"></P>

The gauge install is a lot easier than you may think. I had to tail someone at 60MPH to correct the speedo. Don't forget to checks where your GT idles at after it's warmed up. Mine is 800-900RPMs. Hopefully your EL-glos work out for ya. I hate buying things twice.</P>

Well, I grew a pair of balls and pulled on the radio knob, and off it came... no biggie there. :)

vfast, thanks for the tip.

I also got the headlight knob off without any trouble. I've read so many people saying that the headlight knob is a huge pain in the ass, and that it takes forever to get off. I had mine off in under a minute... what's the big deal? :)
