Well it was my first real street race with my stang and a friend of mine pulled up in his 98 GT vert and started reving he had a passenger so it wasnt a fair race. but this is how it went.
we pull up to a streeet light and he says go easy on me i have a passenger. i laughed and sayed lets go to 60 cause there was alot of cops out last night. i told him ill give him a head start to see what happens. his mods were flowmasters pulleys and a short throw shifter, thats what he told me he had anyway.
the light turns green and he hits it he gets just about a car ahead and i hit it. i was easy on the launch didnt even spin my tires. i gave him alot of chances to beat me since he was out powered by me. but as soon as i shifted to 2nd he was even with me and then it was by by from there went right past him and saw his head lights in the rear view when i was hitting about 60. i dont know how many cars ahead i was couldnt really tell but i saw his head lights in my mirror.
not much to brag about it was a 98 vert and he had a passenger.
but it was fun and i thought id share my first street race with you guys.

well i had the car for two weeks at the time and have only drivin a stick in my gf old as celica. so at the time i wasnt a expert shifter. i live in florida and it was about 85 with high humidity rain was in the area. i had gotten a 2.4 60 and i was dumping the clutch and spinning threw 2nd i had gotten a 14.6. so i figure now that i know how to drive a stick and launch i wont be seeing those times any more.
you know what was funny i still beat a 98 - 4.6 on that run. he beat me on the launch by a few cars why i was spinning and when i got traction i passed him.

94-98 GT's are some of the slowest Mustangs produced. Looks like you shift well after the launch at least. 14.2 is what a decent driver runs in a 99+ GT. You would be around that range with a decent 60'.
Yea i usally see a 99+ run 14.5s to 14.2 somehwere. Seen them as slow as 15.60 before.

yeah i can shift pritty good for being new at a manual. i just didnt know how to launch at that time so all i did was dump the clutch. kinda feal stupid saying that but oh well.
i dont power shift either just strait up grandma shifting lol. im sure if my car was stock still and i went to the track i could pull a 14.2 now that i know what im doing. with my mods im hopeing for a break in the high 13s. like you see with my time i ran a 14.6 but my car is capable of faster times it all come down to th e driver. except if you drive a 98vert then your OWNED. lol jk

I own an '04 GT vert and was wondering what time this beast will pull at the track. It's a beastly 4490 lbs. It's a 5 speed and I was practicing launching in a new developement (no houses just a 2 mile straight road) tonight. I'm really getting the feel of feathering the cluch, putting most of the power to the ground without breaking loose. I want to at least know how to launch when I show up at the track for the first time... Don't want to look like a total nube
