I drove the GT, then drove the Pony edition V6. The cars were optioned identically other than the V8 -- and the almost $5000 price differential didn't make sense to me. I can get a ticket just as quickly in my V6 Pony, and I felt it had enough power to satisfy my needs in a daily driver. It also was a lot different from my V8 Explorer or my wife's Focus ZTS! Been very happy with the V6.
I was 18 when I bought my first car (which is this mustang) and pushing $1K a month income. I paid $462.64/month for the car and $266/month for insurance. I was quoted over $4000 a year for insurance coverage if I had a Mustang GT. Of course, now I can afford a GT.. but I'd probably be flipped over dead in a ditch if I bought one.
eesh, i was 18 when i bought mine, im 19 now.. impaying 350$ a month, i have 2 years left on payments, and im paying 173$ a month on insurance thats baout 2100$ a year.. ifi got the GT the cheapest quote i could get was 10g's a year :s F that lol

Gas prices are already at $4.10/gal regular 87 in Hawaii... so geting a Sixer was the more logical choice, plus insurance costs... also in Hawaii we dont have enough road to go over 120MPH so, no sense.. also, WE DONT LIVE IN GRASS SHACKS!!! LOL

I fell in love with the style of the new Mustang while driving my 99. I took the 6cyl auto for a test drive while waiting for a standard to test that wasn't at the dealers yet. This had great power, enough for me but when the standard came in and I tested that it blew me away. When I pulled out of the dealer’s lot I accidentally squawked the tires and said "holy crap!" I gota have this car! A GT ?... I'd be spun around in a ditch some where. All the above posts are correct, the 6cyl has more than enough power and at the same time a money saver in several categories. If you want the power of the GT you can add mods and get that kind of power (and more) when funds become available. We're a proud bunch & we love our 6cyl. Hold your head high and be kind to the ricers that have been led astray (in your rear view mirror) for they know not. JL

We had a few different reasons for going with the 6. :My wife really wanted to get a new mustang and i already have a heavily modified 02gt. She was going to be trading in her taurus and using the car as her dd so for price of car, insurance and gas it was just the most logical way to go. Of course, about a week after we got the car i had already found the forums for the v6's and started to see what parts were available already. So within a weeks time i went out and found me a beater Saturn for a dd and handed my ranger over to the wife for dd and started doing some cosmetic mods on the mustang. After getting the car and seeing all the room in the engine compartment it got me very excited to start playing with some performance mods. Now it's just a matter of finishing up a couple little things i still need to change on the GT and then come winter it should be FI time for the sixer. We both enjoy going to the local car shows and always strive to make our mustangs a little different than stock just make them stand out a bit. Had we went with a new GT there would have been no way i could have done any mods to the car. Heck we got the 6 for $19,500, i'm sure we would have been in the 26 range for a gt. $6500 plus the difference in insurance is considerable mod money.

I looked at the price difference, took the six for a drive and thought "This'll do nicely". I've always been a speed/torque addict, so I'd get into real trouble if I had the GT. Like some others on the board, I have a bike for those thrills (Honda VTX 1800C). I love my V6 and would quickly recommend it to anyone shopping for a Stang.
Didnt really even consider the GT I love my sixer!!

plain and simple, last april when I got my stang, all the dealers were looking for a 5-11k markup over MSRP. Mustang GT's are cool and all, but for 32k for a BASE coupe, I can think of better ways I want to spend my money. I like my 6,just fine, but if they had a GT for 26-27k when I wanted my car, I wouldn't be on these forums :P. Now, i'm glad I do have a 6 that I pay my own insurance/gas/etc. Cost of ownership is lower, and that's nice. Insurance esp. is raking me over the coals, don't even want to know what it'd be with a GT. Hopefully when I turn 25 the insurance will drop a bit. Also, with the addition of the X charger, I should be very happy for some time to come. Then it will be cosmetic mods and suspension mods
1. I got my car for 14,900 plus TTL w/ 16k miles 2. I am only 16 years old 3. It is my first car 4. It is still a powerful enough V6 5. Gas Price 6. My dad thinks the GT looks goofy with it's "glasses" 7. The GT just didn't justify the price difference, I mean mine has traction control and everything.

I found out that the GT coupe I ordered from a small town dealer was not going to be delivered (6 weeks after placing the order), so I bought the V6 off of the showroom floor of a different dealer. No GT's were to be found on lots anywhere in April '05. I had to move quickly because I was giving my truck to my son who was going away to school. So I "settled" for the V6 convertible. I am really happy with the car I got.

$4.10 in HI??? HOLY COW!?!? Dayum..I thought 3.00 was expensive in AZ....$4.10? Dayum
HI and Alaska always get screwed when it comes to sales and cost of living though. The fine print always says, 'excludes Hawaii and Alaska, and U.S. Territories'

Yeah $4.10/gal and thats no typo.... we did have a bill passed that would demand wholesellers/distributors of gas to have a "cap" that would make our prices of gas the same as california or something, that caused alot of mixed reviews, service stations started bitching about gas shortages and not enough money to run the pump.. of course it passed and was in effect for 9 months or so, no shortages or no closure of pumps... they suspended the "gas cap" because of the rise in prices in the mainland... with the price that it is at now, it comes with lots of pros and cons.. such as, LESS street racing ( I dont speed much anymore) but, with less racing and street violations, Police put MORE emphasis on other things, such as speeding 5 miles over the speed limit! I got pulled over the first week that I got my Mustang, for going 5 miles over the speed limit, at 12:00AM... but I knew why he wanted to pull me over, because right before he gets in his squad car to leave, he tells me " Braddah, I know you get one nice car, but you have to slow down" ... I was pissed off at first for him pulling me over, but then I laughed at the fact that he was admiring a sixer.. hehe

I second your input, LX200. I have a Satin Silver 06 V-6 and it is really peppy now that I've done the same mods as you have (C&L CAI, 93 Octane Torgue tune, XCal2, Bama Chips, Mustang Racing Tech (MRT) axle back muffler) . What a difference the mods have made! The Pony really punches it out now! I LOVE THIS CAR. A GT for the extra thousands a year is insane, actually. I could only imagine getting one if my salary doubles (and it's almost 6 figures). I just cannot justify the extra money with 4 kids and a wife. This pony is love-able as is.......and I'm going to add the GT grill and foggies soon.

I shopped for 6 months, drove both the gt and the v6, honestly didn't think there was $8k difference between them. I thought the better value was the V6 premium w/pony package.
My son comes back from army this winter, if he wants my stang, I'll give it to him, and then I'll go shoping again, maybe the gt500 ;)

I went to just drive the new Mustang all the dealer had ready was the V6! Bad mistake to just "go for a ride" I ended up falling in love and driving it home. It's way faster that my '83 5.0 and handles great. I'm now glad there were no GT's to drive because I wouldn't have my car. LOVE IT. Insurance price is cool too!
