It's the only thing that seems to work on my Cobra & Titan. lilozzy 07-14-2006, 12:49 PM ORIGINAL: Dan04COBRA A really fine 3m rubbing compound followed up with some wax. It's the only thing that seems to work on my Cobra & Titan. would you suggest to use that on the whole car and then do a nice wax job? Madcow5x5 07-14-2006, 01:04 PM I just used a clay bar kit to remove a lot of marks off the front of my car. I know most of these marks were made by friendly flying insects that greeted me on my drive back from Arkansas. It seems to have done the trick. There are no more marks. lilozzy 07-14-2006, 01:29 PM ORIGINAL: Madcow5x5 I just used a clay bar kit to remove a lot of marks off the front of my car. Its abrasive enought to pull the bugs off, but wont scratch the paint. Wax will help protect but not really remove once the damage has been done. lilozzy 07-14-2006, 02:05 PM i have used bug and tar remover and a bug sponge and that didnt work. Madcow5x5 07-15-2006, 03:11 AM That's pretty major bug damage. Mine wasn't that bad. I had what looked like scratches on my hood. Those marks came out easy. My bumper had a couple of bug marks left over after washing and those came out as well. Hope you find something that works.... lilozzy 07-15-2006, 09:15 PM i got a tub of rubbing compund and a buffer and took it to the bumper lst night and it slowly was takin the marks out but it will be an all day job to get it all out. it looks like it has gotten all of the way down to the clear coat... any suggestions? ford4v429 07-23-2006, 03:46 AM dunno if recommended or not- but I was told WD40 was great for removing the adhesive residue on wheels- one had tar on it, son of a gun if wd40 didnt wipe it right off with just a few seconds of light rubbing...I went ahead and used it on my paint to remove tar and bugs, then wiped it off with fantastik to remove oil, then just washed/waxed it...claybar works, but takes a while longer- especially with the tar. YouGiveMeRash!!! 07-23-2006, 09:36 PM Carb cleaner works for me. I've been using it for years on removing tar and stuff on my rims, and bugs, etc.. on my cars. It hasnt affected the paint on any of the cars I've used it on for years. I've been using it for like 4 years now. callahan 07-26-2006, 08:42 PM WD-40 561boii 07-26-2006, 11:06 PM clean rag, a little soap and water and some elbow grease should do the trick:D:D:D fiad06 07-30-2006, 03:59 AM you guys might call me stupid, butt after you just wash you car, put pam on the bumper, you have to spread it aroud or you will be able to see it, just coat it and spread with a rag. i tried it and it worked good. This is after you remove the bugs...for the future ones... TwotoneVert 07-30-2006, 12:22 PM I know a lady that used to have a detail business, and she swears by WD-40. I use it with no ill effects, but I always use it when I wash the car so I can wash it off. Dont forget to wax after you use it. sowaxeman 08-01-2006, 06:33 PM ORIGINAL: lilozzy i have used bug and tar remover and a bug sponge and that didnt work. Can you bench press your own weight [8D] Sounds like you need to apply a LOT more elbow grease with that Bug/Tar remover. I would guess your car does not have a good coat of wax on it, plus you let the bugs sit for too long which = major pain in the a$$ for removal. Use the bug & tar removal with a good "bug sponge" and rub until your shoulder wants to fall off. Once you get it all removed, apply a good coat of polish, then a good coat of wax. After that, wash your car regularly and they should come right off. Also, depending on how long the bug acids have been there its possible they have eaten into your paint, and you might be left with some pits (look like rock chips). As an example, my car is always clean/detailed. With the wax that I have on it (Mequires), MOST of the bugs come right off the bumber with the duster! The rest come off with one light pass of a micro fiber with a detail spray (within a few hours of night driving of course ;)) Clean OFTEN, and avoid the clean FOREVER routine :) gperry 08-02-2006, 01:45 PM The safe and sure way to remove BUGS IMO,,,, ASAP using a clean cloth, apply clear cold water, make sure the area is cool! Let the water soften the bug juice, wipe of after sitting for 3 - 4 minutes. This may take several attemps but it will clean off the bugs. SOLDSHORT 08-02-2006, 03:47 PM go with the clay. sowaxeman 08-03-2006, 12:49 PM ORIGINAL: gperry The safe and sure way to remove BUGS IMO,,,, ASAP using a clean cloth, apply clear cold water, make sure the area is cool! I would agree with you if the car was new or kept freshly waxed, but IMO this routine would be next to impossible on a bumper that is not waxed or has had bugs on it for an extended amount of time. When I got the Navigator from my boss, it had MONTHS of bug goo on the bumper and it hadn't been waxed in over a year. It took me nearly 30 minutes with the Bug Remover and a Bug Sponge - and a TON of elbow grease. I was left with SEVERAL pits from the acids, but now with a good coat of polish and wax - they come right off in the automatic carwash. JFettsRoush 08-03-2006, 05:28 PM ^^^^^^Excatly! If you take out your pride and kill bugs with it, at least get the left over blood and guts off that same night or early the next am. As he said if you've let it go this long your prob screwed and are in for a new paintjob or re-finish. I personally can't show up anywhere (feeling good) with the front end all covered in bugs! Just take the time to clean it really good once, polish, wax and then they won't be as bad to get of next time. Derf00 08-03-2006, 05:45 PM ORIGINAL: YouGiveMeRash!!! Carb cleaner works for me. ANd spray the towel away from teh car so you don't get the overspray/mist on your paint. One you wipe it, follow with a very wet towel, dry, and wax it. Done. DO NOT USE THE CARB SPRAY ON HOT PAINT OR HOT RIMS....it will cause discoloration. |
