Actually, that's the first thing I've seen her be correct on. Steeper gear = hp loss. Although, it's typically unnoticeable.

I don't get what you are saying.

why would the axle spin slower? the wheels/tires have to spin the same number of times per hour at 20 mph no matter the rear end gearing. I thought it was a fairly well known idea that higher gears can throw off your dyno. and I'm not just saying this cause janine is my future wife.

with lower (higher-numerical-number) gearing, your rear wheels spin fewer times per rotation of the engine in 4th gear (1:1 engine/driveshaft gear ratio). this means that though the rear axle still has the same moment of inertia (moment of inertia in a rotation represents the same concept as mass in a linear motion...so basically i just said that either way, the axle has the same rotational mass), its lower rotational velocity results in less actual rotational inertia (something spinning slower is easier to stop, just as something moving slower in a straight line is easier to stop than that same item going faster).

anyway, this basically just gives background explanation to what janine said:
though the lower gearing results in more torque, the engine must work harder to make the wheels spin...resulting in added torque and lessened hp.

my point is that friction is not what causes the loss. the slower spinning of the axle more than offsets the added friction, but means that the engine has to work harder to increase the rotational acceleration of the wheels.

Hey nice kill MrRogers. How many miles on your car now?

Right now about it has about 325miles.

Ive got 2,200 miles and have had it for 4 months. Keeping the miles down will add a good resale when I move up the food chain for a faster car (ZO6). I wish I would have known about you before hand Mr R because I would have been next in line with you for a new ZO6 from your dealer connection. I will admit I am seeing more of them lately(I drive for county transit so I do alot of innercity driving so I see a wide array of cars).

Black is definately the best color (but damn it's a bitch to keep clean). So far I've seen a LeMans Blue,Machine Silver, Magnetic Red, and Velocity Yellow. Amazingly I hav'nt seen a black one yet.

The Only negative thing you have on the ZO6 is XM radio. LOL
I had it for the three month trial period but decided not to stay with it due to the fact I hardly drive the car.

I hate thids XM crap. It doesn't even play at decent Volume levels..

Hey Janine did you do a before and after dyno on your car when you did the gears? Was it done on exactly the same day, with all conditiond before nearly equal. I am not saying that gears dont lower hp, they do especually if you go to a bigger rear-end, but your information you are presenting as fact, could easily be flawed. In truth when it comes to dyno information you can never really offer anything as a fact. The dyno has to many perameters, settings, and such to say it is exactly accurate. It is very close, but not 100% accurate. And when your talking about a 3rwhp difference I wouldnt even consider it a difference.

As I mentioned in "the Beast has arrived" thread I had already got a kill in my new car. I was cruising on the 110S enjoying the open road when some guy in a newer model/style BMW M5 gets next to me and then floors it like I was supposed to be impressed. So I kept going at my regular speed but I shifted down to 3rd just in case he didn't know when to quit. Sure enough the guy slows down waits for me to catch up to him and then tries to floor it again..(Bad Move!) I floored my gas pedal and left him like he was standing still... He didn't wanna play any more and got off ther freeway at the next exit. This was my first kill and i'm glad it was a german car. Some of those snobs think that they can take out any american car once they pay 80K+ for one of theirs..

Aside from owning a Ford GT or new Shelby the new Z06 is on my hot list of cars I wish to own. Gotta give props to GM for building such a car, now if the Ford guys could build a Shelby on a diet I'd be happy but the new chassis wasn't designed for low weight... I digress, great kill and awesome car, congrats on the purchase MrRogers!

Congrats Mr Rogers!!! Z06's RULE!!! (the new ones that is). Have any of you seen the April Or May 2006 issue of Car and Driver that shows the Z06 on the front cover??? IT beat the Ford GT in 1/4 mile and Zero to 60. By a VERY minimal amount, but the point is the Ford GT costs $157K and uses a supercharger, where the Z06 costs $65 to 70K and is normally aspirated. Besides, I dont know why, but Ford pulled the plug on the GT and is not making it any longer. Right now, at least for stock purposes, Chevy has the upper hand. Sorry to say, since I own a Mustang and love it very much

HeadturningV8, thats a mighty bold statement....Dont forgot the vette has won Lemans 4 out of the last 5 years, and that includes beating an S7 Saleen. Car and Driver has been testing cars for over 40 years....

Thanks Gonzo. I haven't checked out the car and driver mag yet. I think that the Ford Gt and Z06 are to close in performance to determine a clear cut winner. The out come of the races between these cars are strickly driver controled. I think that neither one has a performance advantage over the other. It's just nice to see we finally have three cars that can be taken to Germany's autbahn.

You could take ANY car on one of the Autobahn roads in Germany though =p Hell, when I was there, we went 125mph on a part of the Autobahn in a Mercedes bus!!! I thought I was going to freaking die. Also went a buck thirty five in a 5 series BMW on the way back to the airport.

I think what you're thinking is:
"America has three cars that are worthy of putting down good laptimes at the Nurburgring"

The autobahn is a known place for supercars to go show their stuff. The Saleen,Gt and Z06 are 200mph cars..Does Nurburgring have a decent straight away?

dont get too cocky i had a C6 with a cam headers intake manifold and walked away from my friends C6 Z06. you might be alittle faster in a straight line and i mean alittle faster but get yourself on a big road course with a viper coupe and see who crosses the finish line first.

Cocky? I'm just stating the facts. Before you mention mods you should think about what you saying and what type of argument your trying make. Your telling me that a camed C6 with headers and intake walked away from a C6 Z06. I can believe that but the C6 was modified which basically means nothing when you think about it. Stock for stock a C6 Z06 > Viper live with it. I don't really drive on road courses. I'm all about the streets and track. But since you know so much about the Viper and the Z06's performance I must assume that YOU and not one of your "friends" owns one of these machines. So which do you have? The C6 Z06 or the Viper? Put down the Car & Driver magazine and tell me how you came to your conclusions.... based on your expieriences...
