i can keep up with a gto from a dig until 100, after that forget it. Dont race a gto from a roll!

all he had was an intake and catback, at the track he trapped at 110, i can beat him in the 1/4. on the drive home we opened them up and after 100 he pulled, thats where those extra horses and 6.0 really show.

im very serious i have seen new gtos beatin allday by 06/05 mustangs///mayb was in way was drivin a lil in gto..but never seen a new gto run mid 13s..seen one at ennis run a 13.9... every 05/06 stang i seen at travck runs aroun 13.8-14.3
that i seen..i think the gtos are heavy..

New to the forum but not to street racing..I have raced a few 05-06 GTOs & I've won quite a few races from any where by a fender to 2 cars...BUT,I have also lost to a couple of them...The GTOs from what I have researched are suppose to be slightly quicker stock to stock against an 05-06 GT.But as everyone knows the driver makes a world of difference!So if there is a better driver behind the wheel of an 05-06 GT he/she will win..But nobody should discredit the 05-06 GTOs,they are highly competitive if not better when a good driver is behind the wheel!All banter aside & little jabs at the GTO,I LOVE my 06 GT but I respect the hell out those GTOs!

I have posted the question to several different websites asking members about new GTO's and if they have seen them run at dragstrips, most report that they are low 14 high 13 second cars. I was a member of LS2gto.com and a LOT of members were complaining about the 1/4 mile times posted by their cars, some even advocated writing letters to GM that the 4.8 0-60 times advertised in the brochures were false advertising because no one could seem to duplicate the the advertised numbers. VERY few were in the low 13's, most are high 13's bone stock. With MODS they dip to low 13's and more mods high 12's. The GTO's are very heavy (without a driver) and the idependent rear suspension saps even more power so that 400 horespower on paper looks and sounds good but it is bogged down, and it's not set up for 1/4 mile racing and dragstrip launches, severe wheelhop is the norm and it takes suspension mods to fix that and then it's not stock anymore. This is why most GTO's you see at the track are high 13's low 14's. The new mustangs are lighter and have a much better suspension for drag racing and they are geared better than the GTO's wich is overlooked by a lot of people-this is why you see most GT's in the 13's. We are only talking tenths of seconds difference between the 2, if the GTO had a live axle it would have been a much faster car out of the box for drag strip launches, the independent rear suspension really hurts it. Also the shifter in the GTO is very rubbery (you get resistence moving through the gates) it was cumbersome when I drove it, thsi can be fixed with aftermarket shifters but then it's not stock anymore. LS2's also don't handle heat soak well at all, race one that has not had a chance to cool down between runs and they'll be down as much as 30 horsepower. Dollar for dollar the Mustang GT is a better buy not just for performance but for a LOT of other reasons as well. The difference in performance is so insignificant that the GTO has no real advantage dollar for dollar.

I've been to the track probably 4 times in the last several months. Each time there I've seen several GTO's, both the 5.7 and 6.0. I have yet to see either get into the mid or low 13's. They just can't launch the car. It's funny too because you see people in aww as they pull up to the lights and then when they hit 14 or high 13, there like WTF???
Nice car none the least.

ABSOULTELY!!!!Ive raced a few GTOs(05-06) & have beaten them & I have lost a couple of races.Ive even beaten the SRT8 Charger(look at my thread here listed as SRT8 Charger).It is most always a drivers race with these cars we are talking about!A guy with a 400hp GTO or 425hp SRT8 means nothing if he cant drive the car!

To my 05-07 brothers, if you get an 05 GTO to line up next to you, don't consider it an automatic loss. Just buckle up and nail it. They can and have been beaten by our cars. That goes for ls1's, Mach 1's, and Charger Srt-8's too. We're faster than people think. I surprise folks quite a bit in this thing, before the gears.
