Dude you just need to realize that stuff happens...
If the parts were bad then thats ok, Ford will replace them, its under warranty. If the install was bad, its ok, Ford will replace them, its under warranty. I agree though, you dont have a dealership install performance stuff unless you know the dealership knows what theyre doing. Take it to a performance shop and have it installed or at least take it to a dealership that deals with SVT's/Saleen's/Rousch's etc.
No need for whining, just take it like a man. Yeah we know you had to sit out on the side of the road and look bad but o well, get over it. Youre a big boy, youll live.
As for parts breaking.. again.. it happens. Get used to it.

snarky? Is that some teenager lingo? I will volunteer to add metal filing in his differential, so he can chnge those gears every 250 miles as neded! I am too old for this shiite! Funny how guys that have put a rod through their block don't cry like this pussy!
LOL, You too? I ran over a piece of metal that shredded the sidewall of my 18" tire. Ironically enough, I was less than 100 yards away from a Ford dealership when it happened. My car had 1,500 miles on it and I had to pony up (pun intended) $172 for a new tire with balancing and installation. The tech that put the spare back in the trunk stripped both of those black plastic fasteners that hold on the inside rear plastic trunk liner on. I swear I was this close to buying an Acura! I still haven't replaced those damn things.

........LOLOL... but yeah I ran over something too.. I was on my way home from work and some piece of metal was laying in the middle of the road and the person in front of me ran over it and popped it up just enough so that when my tire it, it was at enough of an angle to puncture. It really sucked because it deflated immediately and I was doing about 55 so I had to slow down and switch lanes and get off the road... by the time I was able to get stopped I was about a mile down the road, riding on rim.
Installing a new set of gears in the rear end is a complicated process with a great deal of potential for failure. Improper pre-load, didn't properly torque the girdle...forgot to re-fill the rear end with proper lubricants, ....then not properly breaking the new gear set in...particularly when you are uping the ratio....As most have said, this is in all likelyhood, a mechanic's error, not a mechanical one.
I have found in my years, installing a gear set is best left to professionals at a speed shop. People who do this regularly. Some "certified" factory manual reading tech....is gonna miss on this one. Getting the pre-load right and checking the alignment of the gears with tracking die to make sure that the gears properly mesh...must do. This is a "by feel" thing...and if you don't know ...don't try.
Who's not listening? I already said the dealer and I have now come to an agreement...but you losers want to start with the personal BS. You obviously are all posers and wannabes, because no mechanics are home from their jobs yet and every 'Stang owner is either wrenching or running at 4:30 PM (1:30 PT) on a Tuesday afternoon...unless, of course, all your Mustangs are in the shop, too? Naw, you're just wannabes and posers, wishing you had the bucks for the rides of your dreams, but just posting lame-a** instead. So, so long, chumps, I got the info I wanted here. Sit on your tails and answer with some more snarky s***, I promise I won't be reading any of it.
This just goes to show ya everyone.... don't date a girl from PA because apparently their tampon strings are made of burlap and it makes them quite bitchy.

Maybe this will make you guys feel better...my flat was also at about 1,500 miles, and my tire is a P275/35ZR20 (cha...ching!) and I was on my way home from 4 days in the hospital. Oh well, crap happens, I was just happy to get the new tire mounted without a scratch on the rim.

Yeah I was lucky.. with all the riding on my rim I did it isnt messed up... theres a few tiny scratches on the very back edge of the lip which you cant even see with the tire on...but the tire beaded and sealed great and its not flat spotted, so thats all I care about lol.

I am very new to the board, and I am surprised that the ford shop would even do that work.
My view is: These are the same people that sold you a new Mustang with a defect in the rear end, TSB 05-21-2 without a peep. I am assuming that it was never corrected at the factory, I hope I am wrong. I wonder if the drag kit has the better clutch pack part# or they re-installed the clutch pack from the factory (again, assumed defective)? I would get another ford place (even a couple hundred miles away) to determine exactly what was going down, assuming 30K-40K is on the line, just tow it a little farther. I bet that will get their attention. Isn't the warranty valid in any shop? Just a thought.
Mine was built 12/05 and I started getting that noise in the rear axle at 5,000 miles or so, (again in -TSB 05-21-2). What is your MM/YY? Seems like a big liability to Ford, I mean they got hammered to death over tires. It is kind of scary what may be lurking.
Can they read your speed at the time of failure (or near that time), to put the ball in their court. Did the engine rev, shutdown?
Locally, our shops are so busy, and they have so little competition, I am not sure I can get mine fixed before it blows the stock rear end out. I consider our 2006 in beta testing at least until the warranty is out. Even more so now that I have had my first real problem and joined the board and have been enlightened to viewpoints that the 2005 was a bit of a trial production run to get the bugs out.

Someone in this thread is an emotional moron....and its not me or ghostpony.
Hence the name "pitbull". What an ass!
I'm very new to the world of the wonderful Mustang (have wanted one since '83 but finally got one as a pre-retirement gift for myself...retirement from the military I mean...I'm not THAT old). I've been doing some browsing on several threads since I discovered this forum, just to learn a few things about the car, gauge which discussions to get into, which to avoid, etc. I stumbled on this because I thought about changing gears some day -- topic sounded interesting -- and I simply could not believe what an idiot that guy was. You guys all tried to offer sane, rational advice to him and he wanted none of it. Totally blows me away when someone seeks advice and then calls YOU the ass for being kind enough to share it with him. He deserves an Acura....and headaches and stress and all those lawyers.
Thanks for the laughs...and the education too!

i cannot believe this thread is still going. it's plain and simple - the dealer installed the gears. the gears failed. the gears and installation carry their own warranty - the original factory warranty has NOTHING to do with this. I just had the upper control arms changed on my Ranger, which is LONG past it's factory warranty. those parts i just had changed have a 1 year/12000 mile warranty. the details here dont add up. more importantly, everyone should remember that unfortunately the dealer has us by the nuts. you make more friends with honey than you do with vinegar. it is important to be polite to the service advisors, and build a relationship with them. pay the friggin 21.95 to have your oil changed there. buy the friggin wiper blades there if you need them. when it comes to warranty work the dealer is reimbursed by Ford at a considerably lesser rate than a regular customer pays - usually 60-70%. i say this from experience as a former tech at a Ford dealer. bottom line, if you want CUSTOMER service, you must be a CUSTOMER first.

Good points RodeoFlyer...and your experience is noted. However, that is not good enough. And that is why American car manuf. are going broke. Not my problem is the new customer stance. Don't care about your mechanics standard of living or how much Ford screws the shop. Dudes- wake up. And there is a fine line between butt kissing and being loyal to a shop for the purpose of great service above the norm. While my local shop gave me steller service, their policy for TSB 05-21-2 and probably any other maintenance that requires parts stinks. I should not have to take my car down to shop 1 day just so they can verify the need to order parts and then return the car at a later day for maint. They should stock parts that are going to be used, for free until consumed. Also, the rear end examination/test that I am speaking about will only take 30 seconds tops to confirm, yet they don't even bother to look at that in advance. We all have had "wake up calls" in our jobs. Ford or anyone else for that matter is not above this. We change with the times or die.
